This publication reviews the practices and policies of Internet Plus agriculture business models in the People's Republic of China (PRC). It analyzes the agriculture value chain model, rural e-commerce platform, and Internet Plus agriculture service model. The Internet Plus rural economy is an emerging driver of comprehensive development in the PRC as a new production management and marketing tool for farmers and farmers' cooperatives. Its potential is seen as a foundation for vitalizing the countryside and key to achieving agricultural modernization.

This publication, produced by FAO and Zhejiang University, examines how rural e-commerce could advance the digital transformation of agri-food systems, including increasing production efficiency, expanding farmers’ market access, improving poverty alleviation, fostering agricultural entrepreneurship, and attracting young generations back to their villages for economic revival and rural revitalization. It is highlighted that an enabling ecosystem with favourable government policies and strategies, public-private partnerships and innovative business models is of great importance to accelerate the development of rural areas in China, and generate larger economic, social and environmental impacts. As the largest developing country in the world, the experience of digital agriculture transformation in China could be shared with other developing countries. The report also discusses some of the challenges encountered and lessons learned during the development of rural e-commerce, as well as the proposals for the way forward.

The book examines the expansion of investment and trade between China and New Zealand, and its changing composition within the political framework, especially the 2008 Free Trade Agreement. Particular attention is paid to China’s volatile agrifood market, where New Zealand dairy products play an important role for both countries. The New Zealand-China economic relationship – asymmetrical and complementary, but with increasing competition from domestic production – is a case study of the complexities of globalization and the interplay of economic imperatives, political pressures and cultural factors. China is now New Zealand’s main economic partner and a major source of migrants, tourists and students. This proposed study on how New Zealand and China manage their grave dissimilarities and disparities in growing, ever close economic ties will be of interest to academics, policy analysts, economic/trade decision makers, and business practitioners.

This book presents for the first time a detailed and comprehensive interpretation of Zhongguancun, China’s first national self-dependent innovation demonstration zone. Explored in the book are examples of world-class, leading enterprises in fields, such as the Internet, big data, artificial intelligence, green and low-carbon, modern supply chain and high-end service. According to some data, the rate of contribution to the economic increase of Beijing made by Zhongguancun rose to 36.8% in 2015 from 17.9% in 2010. More specifically, in 2015, nearly 40% of the economic increase in Beijing was contributed by Zhongguancun Science Park. By 2017, Zhongguancun fostered 650 gazelle enterprises and 70 unicorn companies. The book also uniquely provides readers with a panoramic interpretation of the environment for innovation and entrepreneurship in Zhongguancun.
