Excerpt from International Organization and Agricultural Development The ibrd and the ide have put major emphasis on projects to improve water supplies and purchase needed production inputs, particularly machinery. In more recent years these two banks have emphasized livestock as well as crops. In the past 3 to 4 years, ibrd and ide have supported international agricultural research institutions and ibrd has begun a program of socioeconomic research concerning such problems as rural employment and development, protein shortages, and population pressures. Fao has placed its emphasis on training and technical assistance at country levels and now seeks to help with investment studies in farming and agribusiness. Fao has been concerned in recent years about trade problems of developing countries, and the interface between trade policies and development. The international banks and technical assistance agencies, including fao and the Organization of American States (oas), have also put increased efforts into country programming and sector analysis.
