UNISCON 2009 (United Information Systems Conference) was the third conf- ence in the series that is based on the idea to pool smaller but highly interesting scienti?c events on information systems into one large conference. Here, people from di?erent scienti?c backgrounds can present their research results, share their ideas and discuss future trends in these various areas. UNISCON 2009 was held in Sydney, Australia in the University of Western Sydney, Campbelltown Campus. In 2009 the following scienti?c events were held under the umbrella of UNISCON 2009: th – 8 International Conference on Information Systems Technology and Its Applications (ISTA 2009) th – 8 International Workshop on Conceptual Modelling Approaches for e- Business (eCOMO 2009) – Second Workshop on Model-Based Software and Data Integration (MBSDI 2009) We received 115 papers for the three events. Papers were submitted from over 25 countries. After a rigorous review process, 39 papers were accepted as full papers and 14 papers as short papers for presentation at the conference and published in these proceedings. In addition to the above three events, we also organized a Doctoral Cons- tium to provide a forum for doctoral students to get feedback from experts in the area about their research projects.

The ARIS architecture developed here is described in concrete terms as an information model within the entity-relationship approach. This information model, in turn, serves as the basis for the systematic and rational application of methods in the development of information systems. Furthermore, it provides the basis for storing the enterprise's application-specific data, organization and function models. The ARIS architecture constitutes a framework within which integrated applications can be developed, optimized and converted into EDP-technical implementations. At the same time, it demonstrates how economics can examine and analyze information systems so as to translate their contents into EDP-form.

The increasing penetration of IT in organizations calls for an integrative perspective on enterprises and their supporting information systems. MERODE offers an intuitive and practical approach to enterprise modelling and using these models as core for building enterprise information systems. From a business analyst perspective, benefits of the approach are its simplicity and the possibility to evaluate the consequences of modeling choices through fast prototyping, without requiring any technical experience. The focus on domain modelling ensures the development of a common language for talking about essential business concepts and of a shared understanding of business rules. On the construction side, experienced benefits of the approach are a clear separation between specification and implementation, more generic and future-proof systems, and an improved insight in the cost of changes.
