This incredibly complex system of care operates in an environment of heavy-landed rules and regulations and enormous waste of resources.

The choices presented to us by companion 1 that we will make. Will always bring out the most appropriate consequence of that choice we make, companion 2 will bring it to us every time. These 2 companions are always there. The 2 companions choices and consequences define who we are and who we ever hope to become.In this book, hopefully you see this. Hopefully you read this book and maybe give some thought to the choices you have to make and the consequences of those choices that you make. And maybe, just maybe, you can figure out a way to escape these 2 companions. I know I have tried for years but to no prevail. And I haven't found anyone yet who has done that. Awe the 2 companions if only i could even elude them for just a second of 1 min a day of the week of a month of a year. But there is no escape for any of us. It does so by carefully reconstructing and comparing the sequential series of decisions of a group of British and Dutch senior civil and military decision-makers which have led to the deployment of their militaries into to Afghan provinces of Helmand and Uruzgan. One of the most prominent findings of this analysis is the shaping ability of military initiatives on the series of decisions and the consequent path dependent reasoning during political deliberations on the deployment of military forces: the decision of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands to deploy their troops to southern Afghanistan was based on an emergent case that largely built itself.
