This book discusses the rapidly growing interest in economic diversification through partnerships between industry, university and government (IUGP), with a focus on the economic diversification of the state of Qatar. It provides a comparative account of the knowledge ecosystem in the USA, Norway, Singapore and Qatar, and offers an evolutionary, national economic-transformational perspective on legislation, institutional and cultural settings, intermediary structures, and support programs. Providing a broad overview of the knowledge ecosystems in these countries, it is suitable for readers at various learning levels. It also includes case studies and a concise comparison of the Global Innovation Index (GII) of the four countries, and explores in detail the under-par comparative performance of Qatar, revealing that the country is still at the engagement level of IUGP. Further, it proposes evidence-based recommendations and strategies, making it a valuable resource for researchers, graduate students and policymakers.

The key to unlocking the dual potential of generating both positive social impact and corporate value is found in this delicate balance. Examining a wide array of empirical evidence, Strategies and Approaches of Corporate Social Responsibility Toward Multinational Enterprises establishes the tangible linkages between social responsibility initiatives and competitive advantages, offering invaluable insights for organizations aspiring to attract top-tier talent and bolster brand reputation. Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), Guyana, and Suriname, are Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States that are fortunate to be endowed with commercial reserves of hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbon revenues acquired by the respective governments can be used to fund the cost of several merit goods, amongst which the most commendable is the expenditure on education. This book’s objectives are threefold. The first is to examine the labour market in the hydrocarbon-rich CARICOM Member States. The second is the review of successful case studies of entrepreneurship in countries similar circumstances to the Caribbean. The third is to provide policy recommendations to address this employment problem in the hydrocarbon-rich CARICOM Member States. The policy recommendations of this book are useful for governments of mineral-rich countries, even outside of CARICOM. It provides lessons for policy makers to craft policy to encourage the right enabling environment for entrepreneurship and employment creation.

This book brings together the papers presented at the Smart and Sustainable Built Environments Conference, 2018 (SASBE).This latest research falls into two tracks: smart and sustainable design and planning cities; and the technicalities of smart and sustainable buildings. The growth of smart cities is evident, but not always linked to sustainability. This book gives an overview of the latest academic developments in increasing the smartness and sustainability of our cities and buildings. Aspects such as inclusivity, smart cities, place and space, the resilient city, urbanity and urban ecology are prominently featured in the design and planning part of the book; while energy, educational buildings, comfort, building design, construction and performance form the sub-themes of the technical part of the book. This book will appeal to urban designers, architects, urban planners, smart city designers and sustainable building experts.
