None of the silver is saved except a small quantity, which being obtained in the gold, merely diminishes the value of the latter metal." Fossett's Colorado, page 292: --"It is estimated that more gold has been wasted in milling and has been washed down the creeks and gulches than has been saved." "The proportion of gold saved on the plates and tables varies, in a well-constructed mill, between thirty and fifty per cent. of the whole amount of gold in the quartz, and may average forty per cent."
