The Present Volume Is An Anthology Of Papers Presented In The First Nisda Security Conference In 2005 With Interdisciplinary Contributions From A Variety Of Professionals From Government Organization, Academics And Researchers On The Common Theme Of Conceptualizing The Notion Of Security In The 21St Century. It Entails A Multi-Pronged Input From Organizational, Bureaucratic And Academic Perspectives To Look At In A Focused Way The Indo-Centric View Towards The National And International Security Matters. India's emphasis on Look East and Look West are aimed to improve the economic and strategic linkages with them. This has been possible due to the emergence of India as an economic power.

At the cusp of the 21st Century, the security of the Indian Ocean region continues to be confronted with boundless threats, more from non-traditional sources, that have obviously become manifold in the Post-Cold War era. These threats emanate from non-military sources like drug-trafficking, frequent cross-border terrorism, proliferation of small arms, demographic disequilibrium , spill-over effects of domestic violence, resource depletion, some ethno-religious and tribal conflicts, etc.

In this edited book, leading scholars and analysts trace the origins, evolution and the current state of Indo-US strategic cooperation. During the Cold War, owing to opposing grand strategies, the two states frequently found themselves at odds. With the end of the Cold War and the demise of the Soviet Union, Indo-US security cooperation started in a fitful fashion, but in recent years it has acquired considerable stability. The armed forces of the two states have participated in exercises on land, sea and air and have also carried out joint humanitarian missions. Drawing on new information and with contributions from both academics and policy makers, this wide-ranging volume analyzes the strategic convergence of the world’s two largest democracies, whilst explaining why important differences do remain.
