Fundamental principles of occupational health and safety, 2nd edition, is a practical guide to developing effective occupational safety and health (OSH) policies and programmes based on the provisions defined in the "core" ILO standards and instruments concerning OSH. It focuses on the key topics essential to promoting and managing national and enterprise OSH systems and presents a concise overview of the issues involved, together with specific guidelines for policy design, implementation and management at both national and enterprise levels. An ILO code of practice

These guidelines have been prepared by the International Labour Office in order to assist employers and national organisations with practical advice on implementing and improving occupational safety and health (OSH) management systems, in order to reduce work-related injuries, occupational ill health and diseases and unsafe working conditions. The guidelines may be applied on two levels: they provide a national OSH framework for legal and voluntary regulatory standards; and encourage the integration of OSH management principles with overall policy management at the organisational level.

It provides practical guidance to policy-makers, employers' and workers' organizations and other social partners for formulating and implementing workplace policy, prevention and care programs. This is an important ILO contribution to the global effort to fight HIV/AIDS.

HIV-related stigma and discrimination and human rights violations constitute great barriers to preventing HIV infection; providing care, support and treatment; and alleviating the impacts of the epidemic. This publication documents case studies of successful action in different countries addressing HIV-related human rights violations, stigma and discrimination.
