The conference theme was dedicated to the study of the function of art in politics. The present edition compiles the 30 research works divided in 3 sub-topics: Poderes, Cuerpos y Espacios (Powers, Bodies and Spaces); Batallas por el Imaginario (Battles for the Imaginary) and Resistencia y Representación (Resistance and Representation).

Throughout the 20th century, the emergence of authoritarian dictatorships in Latin America coincided with periods of social convulsion and economic uncertainty. This book covers 15 dictators representing every decade of the century and geographically from the Caribbean and North and Central and South America. Each chapter covers their personal information (childhood, education, marriage, family...), assumption of power, relationship with the United States, oppression of civilians, and collapse of their regimes. The book also investigates inherent contradictions in U.S. foreign policy: promoting democracy abroad while supporting brutal dictatorships in Latin America. Such analysis requires multiple perspectives and this work embraces an evaluation of the influence of military dictatorships on cultural elements such as art, literature, journalism, music and cinema, while drawing on data from documentary archives, court case files, investigative reports, international treaties, witness testimonies, and personal letters from survivors. The dramatic experiences of courageous individuals who challenged these 15 oppressors are also recounted.

Francisco de Quevedo (Madrid, 1580-1645) was well known for his rich and dynamic style, achieved through an ingenious and complex manipulation of language. Yet he was also a consistent and systematic thinker, with moral philosophy, broadly understood, lying at the core of his numerous and varied works. Quevedo lived in an age of transition, with the Humanist tradition on the wane, and his writing expresses the characteristic uncertainty of a moment of cultural transition. In this book Alfonso Rey surveys Quevedo's ideas in such diverse fields as ethics, politics, religion and literature, ideas which hitherto have received little attention. New information is also provided towards a reconstruction of the cultural evolution of Europe in the years prior to the Enlightenment, and thus the scope of the book extends beyond that of Spanish literature.

The Routledge Handbook of Political Communication in Ibero-America addresses the relationship between communication, politics, and digital technologies in Latin American and the Iberian Peninsula, a geographical space linked by social, cultural, and linguistic aspects. In recent years, digital media have been central in the dialogue established by political parties, institutions, the media, and citizens. Thus, by his importance as the genius organizer, it is essential to know the life and thought of one of the pillars within the Wesleyan movement: John Wesley.
