For the last twenty years of her professional life, Beverly Wilkins has been a grief group facilitator, congregational nurse, and visiting nurse. Her occupation as a trained palliative care nurse brought her into intimate contact with many patients going through their final stage of life. She possesses a serenity and ease of the vocabulary around death and dying because of her complete belief that it really is not the end. In fact, it is more like a birthday following a birthday. We are all born to eventually die to another life, “where there are many mansions. I go and prepare a place for you” (John 14:2 NKJV). This book is a collection of real-life scenarios she has been witness to; she wants to give you calm and peace as you transition to the next stage of light, the only stage that all of us will experience: death. May you feel the promise that God will be there to meet you when you arrive in your new home. No need for angst at the end. Go in peace and live joyously and confidently knowing your final destination is already reserved. Happy birthday as you breathe your last breath. Enjoy the whoosh. Bev

Gerard Jone's Honey, I'm Home! has been widely acclaimed as the premier primer on America's Morality Plays-the TV situation comedies that have chained us to our Barcaloungers ever since Lucy first bawled her way into our hearts. Recalling the best and worst the sitcoms have had to offer, Jones recreates their atmosphere and their times with wisdom and style; paralleling the memory-lane trip is his shrewd and provocative assessment of the sitcom's influence on modern society. From Farther Knows Best to Married...with Children, from the empty calories of The Brady Bunch to the social commentary of All in the Family, Honey, I'm Home! is a connoisseur's guide to the sitcom world-where everybody knows your name, and any problem can be solved in twenty-two minutes, plus commercials.

Lord I'm Coming Home focuses on a small, white, rural fishing community on the southern reaches of the Great Dismal Swamp in North Carolina. By means of a new kind of anthropological fieldwork, John Forrest seeks to document the entire aesthetic experience of a group of people, showing the aesthetic to be an "everyday experience and not some rarefied and pure behavior reserved for an artistic elite." The opening chapter of the book is a vivid fictional narrative of a typical day in "Tidewater," presented from the perspective of one fisherman. In the following two chapters the author sets forth the philosophical and anthropological foundations of his book, paying particular attention to problems of defining "aesthetic," to methodological concerns, and to the natural landscape of his field site. Reviewing his own experience as both participant and observer, he then describes in scrupulous detail the aesthetic forms in four areas of Tidewater life: home, work, church, and leisure. People use these forms, Forrest shows, to establish personal and group identities, facilitate certain kinds of interactions while inhibiting others, and cue appropriate behavior. His concluding chapter deals with the different life cycles of men and women, insider-outsider relations, secular and sacred domains, the image and metaphor of "home," and the essential role that aesthetics plays in these spheres. The first ethnography to evoke the full aesthetic life of a community, Lord I'm Coming Home will be important reading not only for anthropologists but also for scholars and students in the fields of American studies, art, folklore, and sociology.
