New York Times Bestseller • Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize • An Oprah's Book Club Selection “Powerful . . . [Kingsolver] has with infinitely steady hands worked the prickly threads of religion, politics, race, sin and redemption into a thing of terrible beauty.” —Los Angeles Times Book Review The Poisonwood Bible, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, established Barbara Kingsolver as one of the most thoughtful and daring of modern writers. Taking its place alongside the classic works of postcolonial literature, it is a suspenseful epic of one family's tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in Africa. The story is told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it—from garden seeds to Scripture—is calamitously transformed on African soil. The novel is set against one of the most dramatic political chronicles of the twentieth century: the Congo's fight for independence from Belgium, the murder of its first elected prime minister, the CIA coup to install his replacement, and the insidious progress of a world economic order that robs the fledgling African nation of its autonomy. Against this backdrop, Orleanna Price reconstructs the story of her evangelist husband's part in the Western assault on Africa, a tale indelibly darkened by her own losses and unanswerable questions about her own culpability. Also narrating the story, by turns, are her four daughters—the teenaged Rachel; adolescent twins Leah and Adah; and Ruth May, a prescient five-year-old. These sharply observant girls, who arrive in the Congo with racial preconceptions forged in 1950s Georgia, will be marked in surprisingly different ways by their father's intractable mission, and by Africa itself. Ultimately each must strike her own separate path to salvation. Their passionately intertwined stories become a compelling exploration of moral risk and personal responsibility.

A Crazy Simple Truth EXCLUSIVE- Interleaved Journaling Bible Collection: (Book I): The Complete Book of Proverbs. This is a notetakers dream Bible, seriously! There was nothing on the market that met all of my Bible study (& creativity) needs so I designed my own! I very thoughtfully and prayerfully designed each detail to create the perfect Bible for the artist, journaler, or the serious student of the Word. Based on my experience of teaching women worldwide how to study the Bible in an in-depth but crazy simple way, I thought of every detail: 8 x 10 workbook size, 12 point easy-to-read font, double spaced text, single column with large amount of space on each side, double page layout: full page of scriptures with a full size note page (faint grey grid lines), thicker pages (works for most mediums), glossy-durable cover, one complete book of the Bible so you can study in context, BSB version (perfect for a student of the Word but also easy to read), decorative chapter intro page , chapter memory verse with modern floral sketch drawing (for coloring), section titles to easily identify the main topic within the chapter, huge amount of blank canvas space for art (if that's your thing!), plenty of note space so you can do the 4 C's of in-depth Bible study: Compare Translations, Check Definitions, Cross Reference Verses, and Consult Commentary, PLUS an exclusive end of chapter reflection and response double page lay out (based on Joshua 1:8) to help you very easily LIVE OUT what you have learned! I am so excited that you are considering purchasing this book and are ready to work your way through the Book of Proverbs, whether it be creatively, or for Bible study. In this book I have used The Berean Study Bible. The reason why I chose this version is because my very favorite free tool for Bible study is the Bible Hub website and app. When you use the "Bible Hub Parallel" option on the pull down menu, you can go verse by verse, which is the absolute best way to study the Bible. You can compare other versions, define words in the original language, find cross-reference verses, and even find commentary. The best part is that if you have clicked on, "Bible Hub Parallel" then these simple tools are all on one page or with one easy click. They make it crazy simple to study the Bible, in-depth. And that sweet sister, is what my ministry is all about. Bible Hub created The Berean Study Bible (BSB) translation. I have found the BSB to be very accurately translated. It is very similar to the ESV. BSB is not a paraphrase. They have taken care to accurately adhere to the roots of the original languages. The translation method used for the BSB has ensured that as literal a text as possible would be maintained, while offering a syntax and flow that are well suited as a modern literary tool. I know that you will find this version of the Bible a blessing as you spend time in God's presence and you are conformed to be more and more like Jesus. Make special note of each section title as this is the main idea. Focusing on the title will help you stay focused on the details that support the main idea. And always, always, always begin your time and end your time in the Word with prayer. My ministry, Crazy Simple Truth, is all about giving you Crazy Simple Tips and Inspiration to get into God's Truth, His Word, so God's Truth can get into you. God's Word has the power to change your life. This Book of Proverbs: Interleaved Journaling Bible, is Book One of a developing collection of exclusive Bibles for the woman who needs more space for notes, or the woman who loves to be creative during her time in God's Word. In this Bible, there is plenty of extra space for both. For resources that go along with this special book, go to my website at www.crazysimpletruth.com/proverbs . You can also go to www.crazysimpletruth.com and join me (and women from all over the world) as we study the Word in a crazy simple way, together.

Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.
