This 4th ICON LATERALS proceeding consisted of 27 reviewed papers under the following subthemes of (1) foreign language teaching and learning (2) innovation in language teaching and learning, (3) macrolinguistics: Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Discourse Analysis, Forensic Linguistics, and Linguistic Landscapes, (4) Translation, and (5) Literature. Prior to this publication the selected papers have been reviewed by three different reviewers to provide more comprehensive and in-depth perspectives for the intended respected readers in the respected areas. The keynote speakers invited to the conference, Prof. Heather Zwicker from University of Queensland, Prof. Hsueh-Hua Chuang, Ph.D. from Institute of Education, Center for Teacher Education National Sun Yat-sen University, Prof. Ogasawara Hiroki from Kobe University, Ismatul Khasanah, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. from Universitas Brawijaya, Syariful Muttaqin, M.A., Ph.D. from Universitas Brawijaya, Han-Chin Liu, Ph.D. Associate Professor from Sun Yat-sen University, Yu-Hui Chang, Ph.D. Assistant Professor from National Sun Yat-sen University, and Asri Saraswati, Ph.D. from Universitas Indonesia, have provided some insightful ideas for enriching the multidisciplinary perspectives of the selected articles in this proceeding. We are also indebted to the support and the encouragement from Universitas Brawijaya and Faculty of Cultural Studies for proving all means to the success of the event. Pedagogika International Conference on Educational Innovation (PICEI) is an international conference held by the Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. This conference took place at Damhil Hotel, Gorontalo, Indonesia, on 15 September 2022. The conference covers six disciplines in the Faculty of Education which are Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Non-formal Education, Guidance and Counselling, Educational Management, and Psychology. The theme of the conference is “Building Resilience in Education in the Time of New Normal”. This conference activity is designed for stakeholders, practitioners, and students in the educational environment. In its implementation, scientific conferences collaborate with 10 (ten) universities and ISMAPI as the co-host with 25 articles published in this proceedings.

Dialogues, encounters and interactions through which particular ways of knowing, understanding and thinking about the world are forged lie at the centre of anthropology. Such ‘intellectual exchange’ is also central to anthropologists’ own professional practice: from their interactions with research participants and modes of pedagogy to their engagements with each other and scholars from adjacent disciplines. This collection of essays explores how such processes might best be studied cross-culturally. Foregrounding the diverse interactions, ethical reasoning, and intellectual lives of people from across the continent of Asia, the volume develops an anthropology of intellectual exchange itself.

The focus of examples is on problems commonly found in introductory, undergraduate, Design of Machine Elements or similarly named courses. In order to be compatible with most machine design textbooks, this text begins with problems that can be solved with a basic understanding of mechanics of materials. Problem types quickly migrate to include states of stress found in more specialized situations common to a design of mechanical elements course. Paralleling this progression of problem types, each chapter introduces new software concepts and capabilities. Many examples are accompanied by problem solutions based on use of classical equations for stress determination. Unlike many step-by-step user guides that only list a succession of steps, which if followed correctly lead to successful solution of a problem, this text attempts to provide insight into why each step is performed. This approach amplifies two fundamental tenets of this text. The first is that a better understanding of course topics related to stress determination is realized when classical methods and finite element solutions are considered together. The second tenet is that finite element solutions should always be verified by checking, whether by classical stress equations or experimentation. The sixteen studies in this book include six specially translated from Greek and another two published here for the first time. They deal with the art of painting in Crete at a time when the island was under Venetian rule. The main emphasis is on the 15th century and especially on the painter Angelos. More than thirty icons with his signature survive, and at least twenty more can be reliably attributed to him. Angelos was the most significant artist of a particularly significant era. It was at this time that the centre of artistic production migrated from Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire to Candia, the capital of Venetian-occupied Crete. These studies try to reconstruct the personality of this late Byzantine painter, Angelos, not only through his icons but also through his will (1436), now in the State Archives in Venice. In this context they also explore the status of the Cretan painter in society. The large number of extant Cretan icons clearly indicates the striking increase in production from the 15th century onwards. Similarly, archival documents are used to examine the trade of icons in Crete and the way Cretan artists had to organize their workshops in order to meet the requirements of the market.

This edited book has a strong focus on advances in microscopy that straddles research, medical education and clinical practice. These advances include the shift in power from conventional to digital microscopy. The first section of this book covers imaging techniques and morphometric image analysis with its applications in biomedicine using different microscopy modes. Chapters highlight the rich development of fluorescence methods and technologies; particle tracking techniques with applications in biomedical research and nanomedicine; the way in which visualizations have revolutionized taxonomy from gross anatomy to genetics; and the psychology of perception and how it affects our understanding of cells and tissues. The book’s first section concludes by exploring the use of CT modalities to evaluate anterior deformities in craniosynostosis. In the second section of the book, chapters on anatomical and cell biology education explore the history of anatomical models and their use in educational settings. This includes examples in 3D printing and functional human anatomical models that can be created using easily available resources and the use of biomedical imaging in visuospatial teaching of anatomy; the novel use of ultrasound in medical education and practice; and skill acquisition in histology education using a flowchart called a ‘decision tree’. This book will appeal to histologists, microscopists, cell biologists, clinicians and those involved in anatomical education and biomedical visualization, as well as students in those respective fields.
