A boy named Tom has trouble reading. He follows his dog under a bridge after school and falls asleep. He wakes up and has become a Troll. Every morning the bus rumbles over the bridge and wakes him up. a girl named Meg becomes curious and discovers him. She agrees to teach him to read using phonics. After all of the lessons are complete, he falls asleep and wakes up as a boy. Tom returns to his grandmother's house.
