In this delightful Read & Listen ebook, when a strange egg appears in their nest, Mr. and Mrs. Bird kindly take it upon themselves to raise the "baby bird" inside. But when the egg hatches, the Birds are in for a big surprise—"Junior" is the oddest-looking baby bird they've ever seen—with big, long jaws full of teeth and an appetite to match. In fact, he looks more like a baby alligator than a baby bird! Nevertheless, the devoted Birds run themselves ragged feeding Junior until he gets so big, he must leave the nest or it will collapse underneath him. But how can Junior fly without wings? To the delight of the Birds—and readers!—the dilemma is solved when Junior takes off from a branch overlooking a pond. Beginner Books are fun, funny, and easy to read! Launched by Dr. Seuss in 1957 with the publication of The Cat in the Hat, this beloved early reader series motivates children to read on their own by using simple words with illustrations that give clues to their meaning. Featuring a combination of kid appeal, supportive vocabulary, and bright, cheerful art, Beginner Books will encourage a love of reading in children ages 3–7. This ebook includes Read & Listen audio narration.

God created the human body as a finely tuned instrument of enormous power, but it requires fuel to operate. To make sure that body gets enough fuel, God created in humans an appetite for food, which we call "hunger." So why would anyone ever ignore hunger and choose not to eat? Going without food for spiritual reasons is called fasting, a spiritual discipline with a long and important history in Christianity. When accompanied by earnest prayer, fasting demonstrates a believer's sincerity to God. In The Beginner's Guide to Fasting, beloved teacher-theologian Elmer Towns introduces the basics to those who may have never fasted before and reviews the fundamentals for seasoned intercessors. Dr. Towns gives an overview of fasting from the Old and New Testaments and answers questions about fasting related to physical health, social interaction, spiritual warfare, and much more. The Beginner's Guide to Fasting is an essential handbook for all who long to draw closer to God through biblical spiritual disciplines.

When strange dreams of a beautiful woman disturbed his sleep night after night and severe pain caused Aaron Summer to be whisked off to hospital, the last thing he expected was the appearance of his dream beside his hospital bed. The touch of her hand caused a jolt of static to run the length of his arm before he snatched his hand away. You was all he could think to say. Her name was Aurora and she had the nerve to calmly inform him that the pain he was experiencing was quite natural and caused by his wings trying to break through and that he is, in fact, a Faerie. She had answered the call of his heart, his heritage. His heart song, so filled with longing that it transcended both time and space to bring her here, to find this lost soul, and assist with his Opening. I am your destiny, open or die. Sometimes you have a feeling. Sometimes you just know.

Year by year the old black tribes are dying out, and many of their legends and beliefs are dying with them. These legends deal with the world as the blacks knew it; with the Bush animals and birds; the powers of storm, flood, fire, thunder, and magic, and the beings who they thought controlled these powers; with the sun, moon and stars; and with the life and death of men and women. Many of the old tales are savage enough, but through them runs a thread of feeling for the nobler side of life, so far as these wild people could grasp it. The spirit of self-sacrifice is seen in them, and greed, selfishness and cruelty are often punished as they deserve. We are apt to look on the blacks as utter barbarians, but, as we read their own old stories, we see that they were boys and girls, men and women, not so unlike us in many ways, and that they could admire what we admire in each other, and condemn what we would condemn. The folk-tales of a people are the story of its soul, and it would be a pity if the native races of our country were to vanish altogether before we had collected enough of their legends to let their successors know what manner of people lived in Australia for thousands of years before the white man came. Some valuable collections have indeed been made, but they are all too few; and there must even to-day be many people, especially in the wilder parts of Australia, who are in touch with the aborigines, and could, if they would, get the old men and women to tell them the stories which were handed down to them when they were children. In the hope of persuading all young Australians who have the opportunity to collect and preserve what they can of the ancient life and legends of Australia, I have put into modern English a few of the tales which may still be had from some old blackfellow or gin.
