From Kristina Adams, author of the bestselling What Happens in… series comes the fourth book in the prequel companion series Hollywood Gossip. Jump back in time to when Tate and Jack were in their late teens, trying to transition from child stars to megastars. Follow them on their journey as they become friends, enemies, and lovers alongside familiar faces from the What Happens in Hollywood Universe and new ones you’re going to love. Tate My new action movie is exactly the kind of role I need to finally shake my image as a child star. But when judgmental colleagues and a megalomaniac director bring up past issues I’d long thought buried, will the price be too high for my mental health? I wish I could talk to Jack about what’s going on at work, but with me filming in Australia, and him working in the States, it’s hard for us to connect. Are we drifting apart all over again? Jack I can’t write. Not since leaving Ibiza. Something about hitting rock bottom has exhausted my creative energy. And if I can’t write music, who am I? Could a career break be just what I need? Or will the lack of focus exacerbate my addiction? Usually I’d go to Tate for advice. She’s my best friend. But after how she found me in Ibiza, the last thing I want to do is burden her all over again. At a time when the world seems to be against them, will these two lovebirds find solace in each other, or will they grow further apart than ever? Hollywood Destiny is part four of the Hollywood Gossip series by Kristina Adams. If you’re looking for a serial will they/won’t they romantic drama about love, hate, and the pressures of fame, you won’t find one that’s more of a rollercoaster read than this.

They’re rich, they’re famous, and they’re about to fall apart… From Kristina Adams, author of the bestselling What Happens in… series comes the first book in the prequel companion series Hollywood Gossip. Jump back in time to when Tate and Jack were in their late teens, trying to transition from child stars to megastars. Follow them on their journey from enemies to lovers alongside familiar faces from the What Happens in Hollywood Universe and new ones you’re going to love. Tate What’s it really like to grow up rich and famous? Pressure. So much pressure. Unbelievable, inescapable pressure. My whole life has been about building my brand as an actor and singer. Reaching the top of the Hollywood ladder. I will not let anyone screw it up. Not even Jack. He’s talented, sure, but his work ethic is non-existent. I have no time for people like him. Yet I’m weirdly drawn to him and I can’t work out why. He’s so different to anyone else I’ve ever met. So completely outside of my celebrity bubble. It’s refreshing. But it’s also dangerous. He could completely ruin everything I’ve spent my whole life building. Am I about to screw up my whole life for one guy? For one chance at love? Jack I never had anything growing up. I was a homeless orphan doing what I could to survive. One night, I got lucky DJing and a record label hired me. My first album took off, but I can’t seem to replicate its success. So instead, I drink. And I party. And I do whatever else I can to run from my problems. Or I did. Until she walked in. Tate’s like no one I’ve ever met. She’s obsessed with work. But that’s not why I’m drawn to her. She’s funny, she’s sexy, and she’s intelligent. Oh, and she hates me. I mean, I don’t blame her. We couldn’t be more different. But what if…she didn’t hate me? Could our musical collaboration turn into something more, or am I living in a romantic fantasy? Hollywood Gossip is part one of a dual POV six-book love story with morally grey celebrities, difficult women, supportive (but stubborn) men, frenemies, poetry, an on/off relationship, and an asthmatic popstar. Not every Hollywood Gossip book has a happy ending, but you will find one at the end of the series. Before they can truly love each other, Tate and Jack first have to love themselves. And that's where our story begins.

"e;Hollywood 'happy ending' has long been considered among the most famous and standardised features in the whole of narrative filmmaking. Yet, while ceaselessly invoked, this notorious device has received barely any detailed attention from the field of film studies. This book is thus the first in-depth examination of one of the most overused and under-analysed concepts in discussions of popular cinema. What exactly is the 'happy ending'? Is it simply a cliche, as commonly supposed? Why has it earned such an unenviable reputation? What does it, or can it, mean? Concentrating especially on conclusions featuring an ultimate romantic union - the final couple - this wide-ranging investigation probes traditional associations between the 'happy ending' and homogeneity, closure, 'unrealism', and ideological conservatism, testing widespread assumptions against the evidence offered by a range of classical and contemporary films. Destiny's Journey is a memoir reconstructed partly from notebooks that Döblin kept from the time he worked in the French Ministry of Information in the spring of 1940 and partly written without notes in Los Angeles where he took refuge during the Second World War. It tells the personal and generational story of the flight of Jewish and anti-Nazi intellectuals from Europe to America, their fear and frustration, isolation, and inability to work. Döblin’s story differs from that of other Jewish intellectuals and artists in that his family converts to Catholicism in Los Angeles. Unlike most of them, he returns to Europe as an officer with the French forces and works on denazifying German literature. The conversion narrative bridges the departure from and return to Europe. To critic John Simon, “the latter part of the book often reads like a shrill piece of Christian homiletics. But even this is not without interest, as it traces the transformation of an anarchic outsider into a dogmatic insider.” “The first part of ‘Destiny's Journey’ [about] Döblin's departure from Paris [in] 1940... is magisterial: acidly observed, saturated in telling detail, grimly comic and harrowing... with an exemplary introduction by Peter Demetz... an important, nourishing book” — John Simon, The New York Times

“An excellent study that should interest film buffs, academics, and non-academics alike” (Journal of the West). Hollywood’s West examines popular perceptions of the frontier as a defining feature of American identity and history. Seventeen essays by prominent film scholars illuminate the allure of life on the edge of civilization and analyze how this region has been represented on big and small screens. Differing characterizations of the frontier in modern popular culture reveal numerous truths about American consciousness and provide insights into many classic Western films and television programs, from RKO’s 1931 classic Cimarron to Turner Network Television’s recent made-for-TV movies. Covering topics such as the portrayal of race, women, myth, and nostalgia, Hollywood’s West makes a significant contribution to the understanding of how Westerns have shaped our nation’s opinions and beliefs—often using the frontier as metaphor for contemporary issues.
