He had been a great and blameless actor since that time, in the French Revolution. He had landed in New York, August 15th of the previous year. He had uncovered his gray hairs at. The tomb of his dead friend at Mount Vernon. He had been with the retired sage at Monticello, and, as guest of the nation, was visiting each of the States.
