Excerpt from History of Georgia I have kept constantly in View the necessity of writing a usable book. The manuscript was read and criticised by a number of public school and normal school teachers of the state, and I am led to hope from their opinions that a text constructed along the above lines will prove acceptable to teachers and pupils. Where the book is used for very young people, I suggest the omission of Chapters V, XI, XIV, XIX, XXV. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Historical Collections of Georgia The flattering reception given by my fellow-citizens to "The Statistics of Georgia," naturally encouraged me to venture still farther in that field, which must ever be a favourite with the patriotic Georgian. Ten years of incessant labour, expense, and travel throughout the State, have been cheerfully bestowed, and the "Historical Collections of Georgia" are the result. No source of knowledge has been neglected or despised. The Libraries of Charleston, Savannah, Milledgeville, and New-York, have been diligently searched. The Colonial Documents kindly furnished me by the Legislature of Georgia, to aid in the compilation of this work, have been freely used. A large amount of information has been gleaned, moreover, from aged persons - "the oldest inhabitants" of many of our towns and villages - whose memories are proverbially tenacious in regard to events, which made their vivid impressions in early youth. Excerpt from Stories of Georgia IN preparing the pages that follow, the writer has had in view the desirability of familiarizing the youth of Georgia with the salient facts of the State's history in a way that shall make the further study of that history a delight instead of a task. The ground has been gone over before by various writers, but the narratives that are here retold, and the characterizations that are here attempted, have not been brought together here tofore. They lie wide apart in volumes that are little known and out of print. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from A History of Georgia for Use in Schools The author has tried to present in this book the leading facts of the history of Georgia, and he has spared neither time nor trouble in endeavoring to obtain them. Leading facts in the history of the United States are interwoven in the narrative wherever the closeness of their relation to Georgia history makes it necessary or desirable. The book is written for pupils of from twelve to fifteen years of age. Though not descending to childish narrative, the author has endeavored to make the story easily under stood. But it cannot be mastered without study, for with out study nothing really valuable in education can ever be acquired. The narrative that is merely pleasing is not always the most serviceable or the most likely to be retained in the memory.
