Excerpt from A Heritage of Hope: A History of First Baptist Church, Wilmington, North Carolina, 1808-2008 Heritage and Hope is more than just a campaign slogan. Like the early Hebrew people who drew strength from the reminder that the God they worshipped and depended upon for life was the same One who was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, this newest generation of Wilmingtonians who call First Baptist Church their spiritual home tell stories, myths and legends of matriarchs and patriarchs who made decisions and sacrifices that shaped the church into what it is today. Important questions that must be asked are, Are the stories true? Are all the facts of the stories told? What are the stories that are not told? Why aren't some stories told?
