The role of the HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) for Scotland is to report on the state and efficiency of the eight police forces in Scotland by providing inspection and advice services; monitoring the handling of public complaints against the police; and identifying and promoting effective working practices. This annual report covers the work of the HMIC during the year 2001-02 and contains a summary business strategy for 2002-05.

This annual report of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary covers the period 1 April 2005 - 31 March 2007 and examines the efforts to improve efficiency and effectiveness of policing in England and Wales in this period.
