Writes in full to a Mr. Grant, I beg you would come down to this post tomorrow to make some arrangements for supplying some troops who are to march the day after tomorrow towards New York.

Request to supervise the arrangement of the Cannon & Stores from the outposts agreeably to the directions which you have received from this day.. - You will request of the Fort Major the number of men which shall be necessary for your purposes, taking care that a proportion of them be Artillery men. Writes in full, Since I saw you I have concluded to march the 1st & 4th Massachusetts regiments the day after tomorrow, I wish you to come down pretty early tomorrow to make the necessary arrangements.

Knox gives Jackson orders regarding taking control of King's Bridge, New York as the British evacuate their troops. Informs Jackson that the first and fourth Massachusetts regiments have been directed to march this day for King's Bridge where they will join the Light Infantry commanded by Colonel Hull. As the senior officer, Jackson is to lead the corps which will take command of the British posts of New York, long Island, &c. Expects the British to evacuate posts on the north end of York Island by 21 November, and the City 22 November. Advises Jackson that if anything happens to prevent the British from evacuating as scheduled, you, will apply to His Excellency Governor Clinton, and make such arrangements with him, as you may mutually think proper, for taking possession of and securing the safety of the city. Informs Grant that the 4th Massachusetts regiment will be quartered several miles away along the river and to provide them with transportation and supplies as they are housed rather far from their post.

Discusses the furloughs of two soldiers who served under Bryant (refer to GLC02437.10122). The men have to obtain blank discharge forms from army headquarters which must be filled out by Bryant before they can receive their furloughs. Expresses his opinion that Bryant should come to West Point to settle the accounts of the poor fellows (and Bryant's own account) with the army paymaster. Notes that the troops at West Point have received pay for four months of 1783. Instructs Bryant to keep the men serving under him mustered up to the present time.

Knox writes to Grant, I have received your favor of the 4th instant, and accordingly we shall rely entirely upon you that the garrison [at West Point] are not out of provisions. Notes that Daniel Parker & Co., a firm that provided the troops with supplies, is too far away to be relied upon. Relates that the issuing commissary at West Point will have to issue a large quantity of rations to the Canadian refugees.
