Remarks, The War being over we may hope for a revival of intercourse and mutual goodwill between friends who have been separated... Suffer me to press you to write often and to confide me in the light of a real brother. Encloses a letter (not included) to Flucker's mother, explaining the method by which they may correspond in the future.

Writes to his uncle Knox, telling him that he is studying hard and apologizes for the misbehavior of his brother, who ran away yesterday.

Henry Knox was Chief Artillery Officer during the American Revolution and later served as the first Secretary of War. In 1775 he married Lucy Flucker, the daughter of a steadfast Loyalist, Thomas Flucker, Royal Secretary of the Province of Massachusetts. But who were Henry and Lucy Knox? Thus began a quest to learn more about this exceptional couple and in 2010 I discovered a collection of correspondence between Henry and Lucy. This book marks the first published edition of these letters.

Declares, The soldiers of the regiments of this garrison have been tolerably quiet until last night, when the behaviour of most or all of the regiments was totally repugnant to discipline, & in many instances highly mutinous... the rioters appeared to have no particular object in view... Offers to take the responsibility of granting officers' furlough requests, if Washington thinks it appropriate. Knox' retained draft.
