Goodnight, goodbye! Bye! We perish! On May 1987, passenger aircraft Il-62M Tadeusz Kosciuszko of LOT Polish Airlines crashed while on approach for the emergency landing near the Okecie airport. The crew lost a fight for life that lasted for 3o minutes. The last message given by the pilot was: - Goodnight, goodbye! Bye! We perish!

The Getty Museum's collection of drawings was begun in 1981 with the purchase of a Rembrandt nude and has since become an important repository of European works from the fifteenth through the nineteenth century. As in the first volume devoted to the collection (published in 1988 in English and Italian editions), the text is here organized first by national school, then alphabetically by artist, with individual works arranged chronologically. For each drawing, the authors provide a discussion of the work's style, dating, iconography, and relationship to other works, as well as provenance and a complete bibliography.

Within a short time the Department of Drawings has acquired impressive holdings of European works on paper. This volume, the first in a series intended to keep scholars apprised of acquisitions, contains 149 entries on Italian, French, Flemish, Dutch, and other works ranging in date from the Renaissance through the nineteenth century. Artists represented include Rembrandt, Cezanne, Blake, Goya, Dürer, Savery, Rubens, Millet, Veronese, Caravaggio, Raphael, and numerous others. All drawings are illustrated at full-page size.

Elementary Classical Hydrodynamics deals with the fundamental principles of elementary classical hydrodynamics, with emphasis on the mechanics of inviscid fluids. Topics covered by this book include direct use of the equations of hydrodynamics, potential flows, two-dimensional fluid motion, waves in liquids, and compressible flows. Some general theorems such as Bernoulli's equation are also considered. This book is comprised of six chapters and begins by introducing the reader to the fundamental principles of fluid hydrodynamics, with emphasis on ways of studying the motion of a fluid. Basic concepts and quantities such as viscosity, density, and pressure, are considered, along with hydrostatics and the equation of motion. The discussion then turns to Bernoulli's equation, the motion of a small element of fluid, velocity potential, and the kinetic energy of a uniform incompressible fluid. The chapters that follow explore two-dimensional fluid motion; a uniform inviscid, incompressible liquid having a free surface and upon which the only body force acting is uniform gravity; and a compressible gas with undisturbed uniform pressure and density, paying particular attention to the propagation and reflection of sound waves. This book is intended as an elementary introduction to the mechanics of inviscid fluids for first and second year undergraduates.
