Named after the famous European explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro is a recreational complex established in 1927 and located at the foot of one of the worlds largest breakwaters protecting the Port of Los Angeles. The half-mile of rocky shore extending from Cabrillo Beach to the Point Fermin lighthouse in San Pedro, California, was set aside as the Point Fermin Marine Life Refuge by the Satte of California in 1969 to preserve its diverse marine life.
