This book also includes a selective bibliography of previous printings of the material and a comprehensive index.

The manuscripts of more than a thousand authors are described in this guide to the Huntington Library literary collections. While the book reflects the Huntington's strong emphasis on British and American literature, some European writers are also included, as are a few figures in the sciences and other arts. Material is listed alphabetically by author and includes verse and prose, letters, documents, photographs, and miscellaneous items such as inscriptions and marginal notes in printed works.
