Este libro lleva por título el de GUIA METODOLOGICA PARA LA GESTION CLINICA POR PROCESOS. APLICACION EN LAS ORGANIZACIONES DE ENFERMERIA. Sin embargo sus contenidos son mucho más amplios que los que implicaría la denominación. En efecto, el libro combina un tratamiento excelente de conceptos y metodologías de gestión de organizaciones, en las cuales se hace una puesta al día del enfoque sistémico, de las funciones directivas, del análisis de producción, y del análisis estratégico, que tiene la virtud de exponer deforma exhaustiva pero comprensibles temas fundamentales en la nueva cultura de gestión empresarial, y de añadir ejemplos y aplicaciones que facilitan el pasar del 'diseño' a la 'acción', así como inducir el significado de la teoría a partir de la comprensión de la aplicación operativa Esta obra facilita el estudio y la consulta, tanto para los enfermeros(as)que interesados(as) en aplicar instrumentos de gestión organizativa en su entorno, como también para cualquier estudioso en campos de gestión gerencial y directiva del sector sanitario. Todos los que contribuyen a esta obra desde el ámbito directivo y técnico de la gestión de enfermería, han hecho un valioso esfuerzo por codificar las innovaciones en términos comprensibles, generalizables y difundibles, y con ello han conseguido una indudable contribución al desarrollo de este campo de conocimiento. En resumen, se trata de un libro recomendable, tanto para la lectura secuencial como para la consulta, y representa un recurso de gran importancia para apoyar el proceso de modernización gestora en la enfermería, el cual es una pieza básica para afrontar en los servicios sanitarios.

This volume presents the proceedings of the CLAIB 2011, held in the Palacio de las Convenciones in Havana, Cuba, from 16 to 21 May 2011. The conferences of the American Congress of Biomedical Engineering are sponsored by the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), Society for Engineering in Biology and Medicine (EMBS) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), among other organizations and international agencies and bringing together scientists, academics and biomedical engineers in Latin America and other continents in an environment conducive to exchange and professional growth.

The IV Latin American Congress on Biomedical Engineering, CLAIB2007, corresponds to the triennial congress for the Regional Bioengineering Council for Latin America (CORAL), it is supported by the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) and the Engineering in Medicine, Biology Society (IEEE-EMBS). This time the Venezuela Society of Bioengineering (SOVEB) organized the conference, with the slogan Bioengineering solution for Latin America health.

This WHO publication calls for the transformation of healthcare workforce training to better meet the needs of caring for patients with chronic conditions. While the world is experiencing a rapid escalation in chronic health problems training of the healthcare workforce has generally not kept pace. To provide effective care for chronic conditions the skills of health professionals must be expanded to meet these new complexities. The publication presents a new expanded training model based on a set of core competencies that apply to all members of the workforce. First the workforce needs to organize care around the patient or in other words to adopt a patient-centred approach. Second providers need communication skills that enable them to collaborate with others. They need not only to partner with patients but to work closely with other providers and to join with communities to improve outcomes for patients with chronic conditions. Third the workforce needs skills to ensure that the safety and quality of patient care is continuously improved. Fourth the workforce needs competencies in information and communication technology which can assist them in monitoring patients across time in using and sharing information. Finally the workforce needs to adopt a public health perspective in their daily work including the provision of population-based care that is centred around primary health care systems. Each competency is described in detail and supplemented with diverse country examples of how it has been implemented.
