Excerpt from Greek Immigration to the United States Inasmuch as the book is based almost wholly on per sonal investigation, I am aware that it is open to the inaccuracies which beset that kind of a study. I have selected my sources of information with the greatest care, and have taken pains to avoid making any positive state ments unless I was myself convinced of the truth of them; yet there are undoubtedly errors due to faulty judgment. My hope is that on the whole my opinions and conclusions are not too widely at variance with those which a complete knowledge of all the facts would justify. The same causes have necessitated the frequent use of the first personal pronoun, which is undesirable but unavoidable. In some cases I have felt compelled to suppress the exact identity of my informants, as their position and the nature of the information furnished by them have been such as to lead them to request expressly that their names should not be mentioned. Excerpt from Greek Immigration to the United States This work was prepared as a part of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, in connection with the Department of Anthropology in Yale University. The effort was made to secure for it the merit which attaches to a scientific production, and in so far as this effort has been successful it is in large measure due to the scholarly atmosphere in which the work was done. It was also carried on under the auspices of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. To it I am deeply indebted for financial assistance, without which the work must have been much more limited in scope. Inasmuch as the book is based almost wholly on personal investigation, I am aware that it is open to the inaccuracies which beset that kind of a study. I have selected my sources of information with the greatest care, and have taken pains to avoid making any positive statements unless I was myself convinced of the truth of them; yet there are undoubtedly errors due to faulty judgment.
