If you have ever read Goldilocks and the Three Bears you will be pleased to know that this is nothing like that story. I won’t tell you who Goldie is but I bet that you can guess from the picture. We are introduced to one of the brothers’ relatives in this book and her travelling companion. And let me tell you, you would not want to mess with Harda. The question is, can Goldie outsmart a penguin?

You just can’t win when you battle with a penguin! Can you believe that Snowball is a rapping snail? This book really sets the scene for what is to become the brothers’ most epic adventure. Even though they are young and completely unprepared for what is to come, the introduction of Ursula the unicorn and Fran the frump fairy should leave you hungry for cake. And as for the jibber jabber, well, you’ll just have to read on.

Let the squabbling begin! Remember the first book when I described the brothers as bickering? Well, let me tell you, you haven’t heard bickering until you’ve been in a room with penguins. I feel sorry for Snowball who has to listen to all this nonsense but when Peter lets the cat out of the bag, only Ursula the unicorn can save the day. But will she save Peter’s blushes, or will she expose him as a penguin pretender?

Percy smells something fishy and it’s not just his pocket. We find out what Captain Pie is really up to with the help of a duck detective and the hamster squad. And who is the kid? In this book we meet only our second human. That is, if you can call Captain Pie human. Are we really to believe that Captain Pie is 350 years old and that he has an island called Rodrigues?

As far as pirates go Captain Pie seems like a nice guy but there is something not quite right about his ship. For one, there’s a whistling duck named after a whale and then there’s all that chat about time travel and time tourists and meat eating being banned in the future. Watch out Peter and Percy, you better not eat any fish in front of Captain Pie! And then there’s the Odod bird which in itself is odd, to say the least.

Book 10 concludes the adventure with Goldie but just who is Mr Nobody and where does he live? Why does the house have no roof? Do gorillas really eat penguins? And do penguins really wear socks? How is Peter able to speak in Spanish? Why does Mr Nobody think that Peter is a girl? There are just so many questions than need answering in this book. Fortunately for us, we get all the answers. Well nearly all at any rate!
