The Hebrew Bible is a philosophical testament. Abraham, the first biblical philosopher, calls out to the world in God's name exactly as Plato calls out in the name of the Forms. Abraham comes forward as a critic of pagan thought about, specifically, persons. Moses, to whom the baton is passed, spells out the practical implications of the Bible's core anthropological teachings. In Persons and Other Things Mark Glouberman explores the Bible's philosophy, roughing out in the course of a defence of it how men and women who see themselves in the biblical portrayal (as he argues that most of us do once the religious glare is reduced) are committed to conduct their personal affairs, arrange their social ties, and act in the natural world. Persons and Other Things is also the author's testament about the practice of philosophy. Glouberman sets out the lessons he has acquired as a lifelong learner about thinking philosophically, about writing philosophy, and about philosophers.

Writing about her indescribable Christ-driven unusual experience, Wilma returns to tell of a divine place over yondera place we describe as limbo to some, the place between heaven and hell. It is somewhere for people who are not Christians, those who are not walking the walk of Christianity now. Maybe a stopping off place many go to when they die. A place described as the place that is believed to be home to the souls of children who died before baptism or believers. The souls of the righteous who died stop there. Although they are barred from entry to heaven, they are not condemned to the eternal suffering of hell. Realizing the portal was the entrance to heaven, Wilma remembers she was in the presence of the Holy Spirit, turning to see Jesus Christ standing on the pathway. Yet Wilma returns from a divine place, with a burning personal desire inside to tell this story. Wilma presses daily to complete this manuscript and reveal to unbelievers that there is a place called skekinah, visiting God in prayer, a living God, revealing his mighty power besides telling of a mystical place where the soul descends to after death. In reality, we do meet Christ for his divine judgment. Daily, Wilma finds herself wanting to drift outside and sit in the yard swing that extends from a large hickory tree limb. In finding peace there, she sings and praises the Lord. At times, she feels his presence with her during prayer time there. The wind starts to blow softly, and she closes her eyes. At this point, he comes to her as a feeling in her heart that he is there with her. She feels his presence as the wind stops, and there is a silence that only she and Christ can feel.

The revival of Calvinism in the nineteenth-century Netherlands entailed the neo-Calvinist movement. With Abraham Kuyper, Herman Bavinck became a brand name of neo-Calvinism. Nonetheless, not until the first decade of the twenty-first century was scholarly interest in Bavinck's work increasing. The conventional "two Bavincks" model used to read his work for much of the twentieth century argues that some contradictory and irreconcilable themes do exist in Bavinck's system, which makes Bavinck a self-contradictory thinker. This dualistic reading characterised most of Bavinck scholars in the second half of the twentieth century. Since James Eglinton's new reading of Bavinck's organic motif, the conventional model became untenable, and scholars are seeking for a reunited Herman Bavinck. Bavinck as a holistic theologian has become the industry standard of Bavinck studies. Ximian Xu aims on the one hand to maintain "one Bavinck", on the other hand, and more importantly, to fill in a notable gap in Bavinck scholarship – that is, no single work hitherto has focused on Bavinck's idea of theology as the wetenschap (science) of God. This study demonstrates that the idea of scientific (wetenschappelijke) theology furnishes the meta-paradigm and cardinal model that incorporates the fundamental characteristics and themes of Bavinck's dogmatic system. Moreover, it argues that Bavinck's scientific theology makes an attempt to engage with the other sciences. Given this, Bavinck's scientific theology is relevant today. That is, Bavinck's theological insights can be deployed to advance theology's engagement with the other sciences in contemporary secular universities.

While educators and educational psychologists debate the influence of media on learning, there can be little doubt that media is now an integral constituent of any educational context. In particular, computer and internet media, with their immense processing power and multimedia capabilities, can have significant bearing on learning processes and outcomes in today's learning environment. Such media, which are increasingly designed to be highly interactive and adaptable, can enable reflective, productive and communicative activities and have much potential for foreign language learning. The book contains 16 papers which look at different forms of media and explore how these affect or can be used effectively in foreign language education. The first of three parts focuses on important theoretical and pedagogical issues in selecting and using media. In the second part, insightful empirical research findings are presented on the contributions of different forms of media in language teaching and learning, including their effect on learners' learning motivation. The third and concluding part of the book provides in-depth accounts of how media can be harnessed to drive innovative curricular practice as well as students' evaluations of these curricular projects.
