The security situation in Nigeria appears to be speaking unintelligible language only terrorists and insurgencies can understand that is elusive to conventional security. Without security, a country is at the mercy of innumerable threats, and thus vulnerable, and, most crucially, the human capital for sustainable development becomes a quagmire. This paper however identified human capital as driver of sustainable development and veritable tool for national investment. The expression is that through this medium Nigeria can formulate policies, and thus sharpen her economy for the common good of her citizens. The paper therefore contends that, the overwhelming characterization of human capital development vis-à-vis the technological implications and socioeconomic challenges of globalization trends are catalysts for national development. It is against this politics of globalization that the paper interrogates the relationship between insecurity and human capital development with Democratic Peace Theory and analyzed the significance of human capital in the overall development of Nigeria. The findings revealed that insecurity is a pivotal factor hindering human capital for sustainable development. The methodology utilized in this study was a desk-based library technique where the knowledge gained from various historiographical, theoretical, and empirical studies reviewed form the basis for conclusion.

This book explores Nigeria’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, presenting key country-specific lessons, as well as providing innovative solutions and practices which are transferrable to other emerging economies. Despite all of Nigeria’s potential, and substantial oil revenues, poverty remains widespread and the country faces many challenges. The contributors to this book provide comparative historical and contemporary analysis of the main challenges for achieving progress in the SDGs, and make recommendations for the most effectives ways of developing, adopting, disseminating and scaling them. Starting with the conceptualisation and evolution of the SDGs, the book goes on to consider the goal on ending poverty, and the urgent need to combat climate change and its impacts. The book also reflects on the role of business and taxation, and the cultural and societal dimensions of the SDGs, including education, gender, and the role of the church. Overall, the book focuses on knowledge/implementation gaps and the role of collaborative partnerships and disruptive technologies in implementing the framework in general. This book will be of interest to scholars, policy makers and practitioners of sustainable development and African studies, as well as those with a particular interest in Nigeria.

Africaís New Public Policy: Imperatives for Globalisation and Nation-building provides a comprehensive analysis of globalisation and democracy, from an African perspective. It also provides policy imperatives that are aimed at seeking solutions to the myriad challenges emanating from managing the consequences of globalisation in Nigeria and other African countries. The author attempts to determine the extent to which public administration principles ñ in Nigeria in particular, and the rest of Africa in general, as well as in other parts of the developing world ñ underpin the management of the effects of globalisation within a democracy and nation building projects. Africaís New Public Policy will not only be a useful resource for public policy decision-making on globalisation issues, but it will also serve as a credible reference material for public sector practitioners, scholars in international relations, as well as officials involved in the diplomatic work environment. It also includes a comparative analysis on how Nigeria and South Africa have handled some of the globalisation and democratisation challenges facing their respective countries under the administrations of Presidents Obasanjo and Mbeki respectively.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2008 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Development Politics, grade: none, University of Jaume I, language: English, abstract: In contemporary time, democracy has turned out to be the most supported political tool for development and social change, which has attained near global acclaim and admiration by many world leaders. Although it is contestable, the reasons for this vary. First, democracy has gained acceptability as a form of government based on equity and justice. Secondly, it purports to uphold the rule of law, and as well, guarantee the preservation of human rights. As it is assumed that effective strategies adopted and properly implemented by a nation have the tendency to accelerate progress in the development of the said nation, this work examined some strategies for sustainable development in Nigeria. It highlighted existing strategies for development in the country, examined progress and challenges in implementing the strategies, and further identified measures which when adopted and implemented, will likely change the social, economic, and political condition of the country for economic growth and sustainable development.
