This study of kindergarten practice was undertaken by the NEA Research Division at the request of the NEA Department of Elementary-Kindergarten-Nursery Education. The most recent previous study was Mary Dabney Davis's 'General Practice in Kindergarten Education in the United States" from 1925. This report is based on the answers to an extensive questionnaire, a copy of which is included, and the results are generally positive. Kindergartens are successfully preparing young children to enjoy learning, and helping them begin their long journey through the educational system.
