Excerpt from Fourth Supplement, 1933 to 1938 (Inclusive), To the Leng Catalogue of Coleoptera of America, North of Mexico It would seem to be axiomatic that the fourth of a series of supplements should conform in procedure and treatment with the previous parts. In spite of this a glance at the present work will suffice to show that it departs widely from the other supplements. The reasons for these changes are outlined below. Excerpt from Fifth Supplement 1939 to 1947 (Inclusive) To the Leng Catalogye if Coleoptera of America, North of Mexico This fifth supplement to the Leng Catalog of North Coleoptera is offered by the compilers and by the publisher in lieu of the much desired new catalog. Many difficulties have continued to make it impossible to prepare a new edition of the catalog, and it is hoped that another supplement will be of some help in bringing the old catalog up to date. The form of the fifth supplement is the same as that of the fourth. The remarks in the Introduction to the Fourth Supplement apply equally here. A list of signs and abbreviations appears on page 6 of the Fourth Supplement. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Second and Third Supplements, 1925 to 1932 (Inclusive), To Catalogue of the Coleoptera of America, North of Mexico In the second supplement to the Catalogue of Coleoptera of America, north of Mexico, we record the species, subspecies, and aberrations, described during the period from January 1, 1925, to December 31, 1930. As in the catalogue and first supplement, the new species are serially numbered, With subspecies and varieties indicated by the addition of a letter to the serial number of the species with which they are allied. An unusual number of names have been proposed for so-called aberrations; these have not been numbered, but are not necessarily synonyms. Many are recog nizable variations which, however, have been regarded by some author or reviewer as of less than subspecific rank. Excerpt from Supplement 1919 to 1924 (Inclusive) To Catalogue of the Coleoptera of America, North of Mexico It has seemed necessary to depart from the plan, strictly followed in the catalogue, of accepting the views Of the most recent author. In the Cicindelidae, for instance, this would have exalted some recently described forms by comparison. We have endeavored in such cases to indicate their relation to previously described species. In the case of certain catalogues and revisions printed in Europe, ignorance Of American species has caused a few evident errors which we have not followed. But as a general rule, we have not attempted to review the work for six years Of 213 authors, a manifestly impossible task.
