This field book documents John Kunkel Small's botanical collecting in Florida from 1901-1909. The book is comprised of a list of specimens numbered 1-2099, with some numbers left blank. It accompanies Field notes Vol. 1, which lists the same specimen numbers (1-2980). Some entries in Vol. 1a are crossed out or corrected, and it appears this book was created first and entries were later copied into the other volume. Entries typically include both genus and species. Location is described by nearby place name, chiefly in southern Florida in the vicinity of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and the Everglades. Specimens were collected on New York Botanical Garden expeditions in 1901 (with G.V. Nash), 1903, 1904 (with P. Wilson), 1906 (with J.J. Carter), and 1909 (with J.J. Carter). Seven loose sheets are included in a pocket, with notes on various specimen numbers.
