Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War Two were issued log books in which to record their experiences, during training, combat, and sometimes their experiences, during training, combat, and sometimes their personal thoughts. In the words of Right Reverend REF Berry, a World War Two mid-upper gunner with the RCAF flying Lancaster bombers out of Lincolnshire, England: "These are men whose wartime contributions are of heroic proportions. Their log entries tell of real life experience of young Canadian men and their allies." (Flight Into Yesterday, 1999, ii) Many of these diaries survived the ensuing decades and it is through the gracious input of their owners that FLIGHT INTO YESTERDAY was created. I've collected, re-written, printed and bound these experiences into book form for the members and friends of the Kelowna Wartime Aircrew Club. The 500 pages of this book provide a unique insight into the hearts of men and women in war. FLIGHT INTO YESTERDAY is a legacy.

Amelia Earhart, one of the most famous aviators in history, earned glory and celebrity in a profession dominated by men. She took her first flying lesson in 1920 and within two years had established a world altitude record. More records followed, and in 1932 Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937, on a leg of what was planned as an effort to fly around the world, Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, disappeared over the Pacific Ocean. Her disappearance remains one of aviation's greatest mysteries. Book jacket.

On 14 June 1919 – eight years before Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic – two men from Manchester took off in an open-cockpit Vickers Vimy and flew into the history books. They battled through a sixteen-hour journey of snow, ice and continuous cloud, with a non-functioning wireless and a damaged exhaust that made it impossible to hear each other. And then, just five hours away from Ireland and high above the sea, the Vimy stalled. Yesterday We Were in America is the incredible story of John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown, and how they gave hope to a post-war world that was in grave need of it.
