It is difficult to compare the qualifications of Adult Educators in Europe as there has been little transparency so far.The flexi-path project aims to provide better comparability of the qualifications of Senior Adult Educators. This English language publication describes the ideas behind the project and explains the theoretical background.The book also introduces a toolkit for self-evaluation, based on the competence profile for Adult Educators at level 6 (Bachelor) and 7 (Master) of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). The toolkit is also an instrument for the evaluation of competences, identification of training needs as well as offering a new perspective on the assessment and recognition of non-formally acquired qualifications.

Youth work, coupled with effective government policies, is invaluable in ensuring that young people are given the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need for civic engagement and social action. Youth work is experiencing a policy momentum at European level. Since the adoption of a resolution on the subject by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2017, youth work is back on the core agenda of the Council of Europe and the European Union youth strategies. This book looks at how youth work practitioners learn their trade, what formal and non-formal education offers exist and how education iscontextualised in the broader picture of youth work recognition. Starting with the premise that formal education entails a series of steps from which youth work practitioners would benefit, this books explores that picture through a mapping study and delves further into its findings through thematic contributions. The results of the research and debates with policy makers, researchers, practitioners, educators and other stakeholders identifies a field of growing opportunities across Europe. The situation of youth workers in different countries varies from advanced practice architectures for youth worker education to those in need of development. Youth worker education, however, is not only about the education and training offers, it is also about financial and organisational resources, legislation, support systems, competence frameworks, quality standards, ethical frameworks and guidance. This book aims to support youth work so that it becomes more visible and evolves into a recognised field of practice among other occupations and professions engaging with young people.

The book represents several contributions that guide the readers in the comprehension of the paradigmatic shift from adult/lifelong education, to adult/lifelong learning. At the same time it presents the contexts where adults learn: the organized contexts, such as the institutions and services, and the informal contexts. In Europe the social economy employs almost 15 million workers. During the crisis years, unlike other sectors, it has often generated an increase in jobs. The aim of this comparative study is to investigate how to allow the supply and demand for young people to meet in the different types of social economy bodies. In particular, it concentrates on the problem of how to bring into line initial university training and the skills required by these organizations. The focus is placed on the varied family of training workers present in at least 75% of the organizations, whose professionalism is nevertheless rarely acknowledged. The papers proposed in this book try to identify the most suitable solutions at the level of curriculum, career development and accompanying measures, while drawing solutions from objective findings and not from training system needs or convictions.

In this volume, the authors treat flexibility as a system characteristic of Vocational Education and Training (VET), in analyzing key conditions for flexibility: -economic context of VET and the organizational and institutional design of VET; -educational tools and resources for the flexibility of delivery and pathways at national level; -VET professionals as promoters of flexibility, mobility, and transferability.
