Miami Marine Stadium was designed for boat racing, but it has also hosted concerts, rallies, religious ceremonies, and other events. It offers views across Biscayne Bay to Downtown Miami. Currently the stadium lies neglected. Without a comprehensive plan to restore the stadium, it is hard to imagine it being relevant in Miami's culture again. That is the focus of this project: To restore Miami Marine Stadium and make it a world-class venue for major events. The stadium is a physical representation of the international influences that shaped Miami. It represents the city's modernity and shift from boring civic structures to lively, grand structures. It is a South Florida landmark and modernist icon (Mid-Century Modern, specifically Miami Modern). One of the main goals of this project is to build upon the stadium's significance. This is accomplished through the use of MiMo principles, including function, place, sustainability, and character. Allowing for interpretation of the stadium's significance, history, and regional ecology is another key objective. The stadium's unique setting and views must also be capitalized upon to create an iconic experience for guests.
