This book offers solutions to anyone who has felt victimized, ostracized or left behind by life. Surprising as it may sound, many people take comfort in their own misery. Feeling too good for too long (or even feeling good at all) can be scary for people, explains Anne Katherine. "Achievement creates anxiety. Intimacy leads to fear. Happiness produces uneasiness. Pleasure causes pain. The solution to this dilemma: what feels good has to be stopped. I call this an addiction to misery." Katherine's fascination and perspective book provides immediate assistance to those people who think they might be making choices that keep them at a "carefully calibrated level of existence--beneath bliss and above despair."

In Extravagance and Misery: The Emotional Regime of Market Societies, Alan Thomas, Alfred Archer, and Bart Engelen investigate the extensive and growing economic inequalities that characterize the affluent market societies of the West. Drawing on insights from political philosophy and the new science of happiness, they show the damaging impact that existing inequalities have on our well-being, and offer an explanation for what went wrong in our highly unequal and frequently unhappy societies. Combining the approaches of philosophy and political economy, the authors expose the economic, social and political mechanisms that create and perpetuate economic inequalities. They employ research from the new science of happiness to assess the impact of those mechanisms on the well-being of the poor, the middle class and the rich. They scrutinize the role of key emotions, such as shame (amongst the poor), envy and admiration (towards and for the rich) as well as discussing which emotional narratives serve to justify and entrench excessive inequalities in income and wealth. The result is an explanation of the emotional regime that characterizes our capitalist societies and that perpetuates the unfair gap between the extravagance of the rich and the misery of the poor. Extravagance and Misery concludes with a proposal of how to re-shape this emotional regime in the interests of justice and solidarity.

Before the Cock Crows is a prophetic look into the spiritual eyes of the bride of Christ in her slow decline into apostasy. In her naiveté, God’s beloved boldly boasts how she will never forsake the Lord. Yet her reflection in the mirror at this time bears a striking resemblance to the apostle Peter in the precise moments prior to his denying our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, not once, but on three separate occasions. This book is biblical in nature with a solid backbone of scriptures to back up and support the heavy weight of such critical subject matter as what will be the role of the Holy Spirit of God as compared to Christian believers during the time of the rule of the Antichrist; an explanation of what the mark on the forehead of God’s sheep is; God’s holy temples present, past, and future; how to spiritually eat the word of God; why a solo and intimate walk with God is so imperative in these latter days; spiritual transformation and renewal; and lastly, how all of these topics tie into the upcoming apostasy predicted by Jesus Christ so very long ago. Indeed, the cock will crow for the Christian Church, just as it crowed for Peter so very long ago. Although there have been many books published on the subject of apostasy throughout the years, Before the Cock Crows not only forewarns against and prepares its readers for the upcoming apostasy, but also teaches them how to develop a deep and intimate relationship with God along the way. This book is meant to reach a broad Christian audience, but more importantly this book was meant for such a time as this.
