This book provides energy efficiency quantitative analysis and optimal methods for discrete manufacturing systems from the perspective of global optimization. In order to analyze and optimize energy efficiency for discrete manufacturing systems, it uses real-time access to energy consumption information and models of the energy consumption, and constructs an energy efficiency quantitative index system. Based on the rough set and analytic hierarchy process, it also proposes a principal component quantitative analysis and a combined energy efficiency quantitative analysis. In turn, the book addresses the design and development of quantitative analysis systems. To save energy consumption on the basis of energy efficiency analysis, it presents several optimal control strategies, including one for single-machine equipment, an integrated approach based on RWA-MOPSO, and one for production energy efficiency based on a teaching and learning optimal algorithm. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable guide for students, teachers, engineers and researchers in the field of discrete manufacturing systems.

Optimal Control theory has been increasingly used in Economi- and Management Science in the last fifteen years or so. It is now commonplace, even at textbook level. It has been applied to a great many areas of Economics and Management Science, such as Optimal Growth, Optimal Population, Pollution control, Natural Resources, Bioeconomics, Education, International Trade, Monopoly, Oligopoly and Duopoly, Urban and Regional Economics, Arms Race control, Business Finance, Inventory Planning, Marketing, Maintenance and Replacement policy and many others. It is a powerful tool of dynamic optimization. There is no doubt social sciences students should be familiar with this tool, if not for their own research, at least for reading the literature. These Lecture Notes attempt to provide a plain exposition of Optimal Control Theory, with a number of economic examples and applications designed mainly to illustrate the various techniques and point out the wide range of possible applications rather than to treat exhaustively any area of economic theory or policy. Chapters 2,3 and 4 are devoted to the Calculus of Variations, Chapter 5 develops Optimal Control theory from the Variational approach, Chapter 6 deals with the problems of constrained state and control variables , Chapter 7, with Linear Control models and Chapter 8, with stabilization models. Discrete systems are discussed in Chapter 9 and Sensitivity analysis in Chapter 10. Chapter 11 presents a wide range of Economics and Management Science applications.

Data envelopment analysis develops a set of nonparametric and semiparametric techniques for measuring economic efficiency among firms and nonprofit organizations. Over the past decade this technique has found most widespread applications in public sector organizations. However these applications have been mostly static. This monograph extends this static framework of efficiency analysis in several new directions. These include but are not limited to the following: (1) a dynamic view of the production and cost frontier, where capital inputs are treated differently from the current inputs, (2) a direct role of the technological progress and regress, which is so often stressed in total factor productivity discussion in modem growth theory in economics, (3) stochastic efficiency in a dynamic setting, where reliability improvement competes with technical efficiency, (4) flexible manufacturing systems, where flexibility of the production process and the economies of scope play an important role in efficiency analysis and (5) the role of economic factors such as externalities and input interdependences. Efficiency is viewed here in the framework of a general systems theory model. Such a view is intended to broaden the scope of applications of this promising new technique of data envelopment analysis. The monograph stresses the various applied aspects of the dynamic theory, so that it can be empirically implemented in different situations. As far as possible abstract mathematical treatments are avoided and emphasis placed on the statistical examples and empirical illustrations.
