Hace unos años vi la actuación de Mikhail Zadornov con su monólogo “Estaba anocheciendo”, que realmente me gustó y no podía sacarlo de mi mente. Entonces decidí que definitivamente escribiría algo del mismo estilo. Pero no me pasaba ninguna situación vital correspondiente. Y ese Año Nuevo, durante la cena de celebración, uno de los invitados había contado la historia muy divertida que se convirtió en la trama de este libro.

The book consists of an exercise to translate a story, adapted according to the methodology © Linguistic Reanimator, from English into Spanish; and of 2 exercises for retelling of non-adapted English and Spanish versions of the same story. Exercise 1 has the key. The story contains 942 English / Spanish words and phrases. By complexity, the book corresponds to levels B1 – B2. It’s recommended for people studying English and Spanish, as well as for native English speakers learning Spanish.

This monograph presents a theoretical and empirical study of the Spanish and the Portuguese Present Perfect (PP). The innovative claim is that the two tense forms operate in the field of tension between temporal quantification and temporal reference. Based on this approach, it presents the first in-depth study that explicitly takes into account the level of discourse. The following questions are investigated: How do the Spanish and the Portuguese PP interact with discursive factors, such as adjacent tense forms? What kind of discursive meaning do they generate? Which diachronic trends do their discourse functions reveal? It is argued that while the Spanish PP tends to a referential drift (traditionally labelled as an aoristic drift), the Portuguese PP tends to preserve and specialize its quantificational meaning. The book is of interest to all those working on the Present Perfect or generally in the field of tense and aspect in discourse.

This text is designed for use in college 3rd-4th year Spanish language classes. Each of the fifteen chapters begins with a brief selection in Spanish from a recent Spanish-language publication. Following the reading selection a questionnaire based on the content of the reading material channels the student into using vocabulary employed in the reading. Three topics are then given, suggested by the content of the reading and designed to provoke conversation in class or to serve as themes for compositions. The second part of each chapter is a study of language difficulties often encountered by American students at the junior or senior level of Spanish language study. Each of these sections is based on a word or phrase appearing in the reading. The third section of each chapter is a grammar lesson which presents one of the principal topics of Spanish syntax, stressing those points of the topic which continue to be problematical to advanced students. Each grammar section consists of a clearly worded explanation of the basic theory underlying the topic under discussion, which is further clarified by a large number of example sentences.
