English Panorama 1 is the first part of a two-level general English course for adult and young adult learners at post-First Certificate level. It will be used by those who wish to pursue their English studies for professional or academic reasons, or for personal enjoyment. Each unit focuses on a different genre or style of written or spoken English, and grammar structures are studied in the context of these different styles. Integrated vocabulary practice concentrates on collocations, idioms and word-building, and study skills sections are included to promote effective study habits.As well as giving detailed teaching notes on all the activities in the Student s Book, the Teacher s Book contains transcripts of the listening material, answer key and supplementary photocopiable revision exercises with at least one exercise relating to each unit.

Panorama: Building Perspective Through Reading is a reading series of high-interest texts that correlate to academic disciplines, including the arts, science, technology, and history. Each unit contains three thematically-linked reading texts-the first on a person, the second on a related place, and the third on a related concept or event.

The articles in this edited volume represent a broad coverage of areas. They discuss the role and effectiveness of corpora and corpus-linguistic techniques for language teaching but also deal with broader issues such as the relationship between corpora and second language teaching and how the different perspectives of foreign language teachers and applied linguists can be reconciled. A number of concrete examples are given of how authentic corpus material can be used for different learning activities in the classroom. It is also shown how specific learner problems for example in the area of phraseology can be studied on the basis of learner corpora and textbook corpora. On the basis of learner corpora of speech and writing it is further shown that even advanced learners of English are uncertain about stylistic and text type differences.
