A collection of correspondence written to Daniel Goodwin, a student at Plainfield Academy, by his guardian, Ebenezer Barnard, of Hartford, Connecticut. Later Goodwin was in Greenfield, Massachusetts; Southington, Connecticut; New York; and finally Boston. The letters are friendly in tone and often discuss Goodwin's finances, as they are being managed by Barnard. All of the letters have been glued to the ticket stubs in a bound volume.

William Goodwin married first, in 1616, to Elizabeth White. His second marriage, in 1654, was to Susannah, probably the widow of Rev. Thomas Hooker of Hartford, Connecticut. Most of the records are from England, but some descendants immigrated to America.
