La verdad bíblica intacta, tal como creo que la promulgo, todavía encuentra una recepción favorable en el mundo, que se me ha permitido experimentar de la manera más gratificante. Menciono, únicamente para alabanza de Dios, y para la satisfacción de aquellos que son afines, que mis escritos, o al menos una parte de ellos, son, según he oído, ya traducidos al inglés, francés, holandés, sueco, y según me aseguran, aunque no puedo dar fe del hecho, también al idioma danés. Mi "Elías tisbita" ha aparecido incluso con un atuendo chino. Pero lo más importante son las noticias que recibo constantemente de las múltiples bendiciones que el Señor, con su gran e inmerecido favor, ha concedido a mis trabajos. Que en su condescendencia y amorosa bondad, se digne también a bendecir esta mi más reciente obra, es tanto más mi deseo de corazón y mi ardiente oración, ya que tiene por tema el principal pilar de apoyo de toda la iglesia: la cruz de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. La división de la obra en el "Patio exterior", el "Lugar santo" y el "Lugar santísimo", tiene por objeto únicamente señalar las diferentes etapas de los sufrimientos del Redentor, desde su comienzo hasta su final, pero de ninguna manera atribuirles una importancia menor o mayor. Si esto último hubiera sido el caso, naturalmente habría asignado a la institución de la Cena del Señor su lugar apropiado en el "Lugar Santísimo", en lugar del "Atrio Exterior". Pero en el plan de este volumen, cae entre la clase de eventos que preceden inmediatamente a la obra propiciatoria del Mediador.
