Policing in the United States is at a crossroads; decisions made at this juncture are crucial. With the emergence of evidence-based policing, police leaders can draw on research when making choices about how to police their communities. The data shows 425,652 allegations of NYPD officers' inappropriate use of force, abuse of authority, discourtesy, use of offensive language, implicit and explicit racial bias, discrimination, and social stereotyping; 50.6 to 66 percent of the victims were blacks.
