The book Economic Growth and Industrial Structure Evolution: China’s Experience since the Beginning of Reform and Opening-up discusses the connection and quantitative relationship between the economic aggregate and industrial structure and is to explore the impact of the institutional reform and government’s macro decision on China’s economic growth and industrial structure evolution through the analysis of the industrial structure changes during the process of China’s economic growth and reform over the past 30 years. This book is collected by the National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences of China in 2015. This study is divided into seven chapters, respectively, "the judgements for economic growth level and development stage", "new changes, new imbalances, and new policies under the new normal", "the overall imbalances and macro-control of economic growth", "the upgrading of industrial structure in economic growth", "the upgrading of industrial structure and growth efficiency", "the imbalances of industrial structure and distortions of primary income distribution", and "the upgrading of industrial structure, adjustment of economic structure, and the supply-side reform".

Since the start of the process of economic reform in 1978, China has maintained the structure of a dual economy, with concurrent development of the agricultural and industrial sectors. This book explores the key issues of China's economic growth and income distribution in this context. Pivoting on analysis of China's real GDP and growth rate, the first part of the book analyzes the evolution of economic growth and characteristics of economic structural changes across a period of forty years, scrutinizing the different determinants that contribute to growth. Then, chapters in the second part of the volume study the relationship between China's economic growth and economic development, elucidating the mechanism of interaction between the former and key factors of the latter, including investment, housing, education, and healthcare. The final chapters center on the development and current landscape of income distribution, providing explanation for sharpening income inequalities and advancing suggestions and feasible solutions to the problem of income gap. Economic development is full of discontinuities. Mainstream economists perceive these as external disturbances to a natural state of equilibrium, but this book argues that much of the discontinuities are part of economic development, suggesting that patterns can be understood with structural analysis. Structural Analysis and the Process of Economic Development presents a detailed analysis of the trajectory of Swedish economic change since the nineteenth century. The emergence of structural analysis in economic research is reviewed, as well as a chapter devoted to development blocks, a key concept that was outlined in the 1940s and that has much in common with the more recent notions ‘techno-economic paradigms’ and ‘general-purpose technologies’. Structural analysis and the major contributions by Schön are introduced in this book. Also highlighted is Sweden’s integration into the international economy via the nineteenth century capital markets, along with structural analysis as a tool for understanding climate change. The recent technique of wavelet analysis and its potential for structural analysis is demonstrated in a non-technical chapter.
