Don't you wish you could just eat whatever foods you want without feeling guilty? You can! God wants eating healthy to be a simple, easy, and joyful expression of your faith, not a guilt-ridden lifestyle of complicated and expensive diet methods. It's not a matter of the stomach. It's a matter of the heart. God created food to help you, not hurt you. Eating with the King is a 40-day journey to seeing food as the fuel source God intended, not something to love more than Him. Each day, Terri Rockwell offers you a slice of the Bread of Life with a side dish of practical tips on following God-given hunger and fullness cues. Packed with scriptures pertaining to food, you will discover how to let Christ fill you with His love, instead of looking to food for comfort. Experience the freedom to eat what you enjoy without condemning yourself as "bad." Having a healthy body is as simple as eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full! Think she's kidding? You shall know the truth; and the truth shall set you free. (John 8:32) What do you have to lose? Taste and see that the LORD is good! "There is so much freedom in the simplicity of this! No more counting calories, worrying about my metabolism, no more forbidden foods. God is so good! I actually get giddy and excited when my stomach growls. I feel like I am directly communicating to God. He's saying, "Thank you for being patient, my child. You may eat now. - Kara Carlisle, Atlanta, GA Terri Rockwell lives with her husband Jason and their two children in Savannah, Georgia.

Fiction. Asian & Asian American Studies. Short Stories. A young translator living in Toronto frequently travels abroad-to Hong Kong, Macau, Prague, Tokyo-often with his unnamed lover. In restaurants and hotel rooms, the couple begin telling folk tales to each other, perhaps as a way to fill the undefined space between them. Theirs is a comic and enigmatic relationship in which emotions are often muted and sometimes masked by verbal play and philosophical questions, and further complicated by the woman's frequent unexplained disappearances. YOU ARE EATING AN ORANGE. YOU ARE NAKED. is an intimate novel of memory and longing that challenges Western tropes and Orientalism. Embracing the playful surrealism of Haruki Murakami and the atmospheric narratives of filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, Sheung-King's debut is at once lyrical and punctuated, and wholly unique, and marks the arrival of a bold new voice in Asian-Canadian literature. Sheung-King has written a wonderfully unexpected and maverick love story but also a novel of ideas that hopscotches between Toronto, Macau, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Prague. It is enchanting, funny, and a joy to read.-Kyo Maclear

Literature on the ethics and politics of food and that on human–animal relationships have infrequently converged. Representing an initial step toward bridging this divide, Messy Eating features interviews with thirteen prominent and emerging scholars about the connections between their academic work and their approach to consuming animals as food. The collection explores how authors working across a range of perspectives—postcolonial, Indigenous, black, queer, trans, feminist, disability, poststructuralist, posthumanist, and multispecies—weave their theoretical and political orientations with daily, intimate, and visceral practices of food consumption, preparation, and ingestion. Each chapter introduces a scholar for whom the tangled, contradictory character of human–animal relations raises difficult questions about what they eat. Representing a departure from canonical animal rights literature, most authors featured in the collection do not make their food politics or identities explicit in their published work. While some interviewees practice vegetarianism or veganism, and almost all decry the role of industrialized animal agriculture in the environmental crisis, the contributors tend to reject a priori ethical codes and politics grounded in purity, surety, or simplicity. Remarkably free of proscriptions, but attentive to the Eurocentric tendencies of posthumanist animal studies, Messy Eating reveals how dietary habits are unpredictable and dynamic, shaped but not determined by life histories, educational trajectories, disciplinary homes, activist experiences, and intimate relationships. These accessible and engaging conversations offer rare and often surprising insights into pressing social issues through a focus on the mundane—and messy— interactions that constitute the professional, the political, and the personal.
