Excerpt from Early English Printed Books in the University Library, Cambridge (1475 to 1640), Vol. 4: IndexesDr Venn's large collection of works on Logic, presented in 1889, contained only nine English books before 1640: the library of Professor Adams, bequeathed in 1892, added 139; in both cases the class-mark preserves the donor's name. I have already spoken of the Sandars Collection. On the whole, more books have been given in the last forty years than in the hundred and fifty which preceded them. Lord Acton's vast collection, presented in 1902 by Mr John Morley, hardly concerns us now; for, incredible as it may appear, among the or more volumes which composed it, less than 30 were English before 1640.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
