"Like other families, letters were the fabric that held the fledgling Waldron family together during the personally trying, society changing events of World War II. Bill, the town baker, voluntarily became an infantry soldier and platoon scout in Europe and Marge, a new wife, became the town baker - the Waldron's version of Rosie the Riveter. Nothing in their lives had prepared them for these roles yet everything in their lives made them equal to the tasks at hand. Their letters to one another provide an intimate view of an American family triumphing in the face of adversity. Duty, Honor, Faith, Love and Family all play a role and readers will come to love and admire both of them. Bill's letters from the Battle of the Bulge, the Siegfreid Line and through the end of the war across Germany and into Czechoslovakia are particularly interesting. He reveals himself as a down to earth patriot who volunteered for a very dangerous job and excelled - a man with survivor's instincts who avoided illness, frostbite and wounds under extremely difficult circumstances. Historical perspective is provided by sidebars throughout the book which explain matters referred to in the letters as well as what is going on in the war and at home. The sidebars are themselves an education, made immediate and interesting by the personal experiences conveyed in the letters"--Page 4 of cover

At night, on a cliff in the Arizona desert, Colonel Sam Sawyer asks Rita Kelly, "Do you love me, Rita?" Once they were engaged to be married, but Native American Johnnie Lonetree, Sam's best friend, shattered that. Now all three are together again at Altamura Air Force Base. As a thunderstorm roars, Sam hears Rita's answer. Within seconds she loses her balance and tumbles down the side of the cliff. Is she alive? Why did she fall? Sam is Chief of Security at this crucial base which houses Selene, a supercomputer designed by Rita to control America's missile defenses. Johnnie has been sent by DARPA to test Sam's security and Rita's programming. Sam uses Selene's hidden cameras to spy on everyone on the base. With him, we learn the secrets of every character, including the psychological defense mechanisms they use to protect themselves from the slings and arrows of harsh reality. Soon Sam comes to suspect that someone, maybe Johnnie Lonetree, is plotting to destroy the US in a massive attack. Can he stop it?

For fans of Alice Hoffman, Sarah Addison Allen, and Adriana Trigiani, The Witches of Cambridge reveals an astonishing world where the heart’s deepest secrets give way to the magic of life-changing love. Be careful what you wish for. If you’re a witch, you might just get it. Amandine Bisset has always had the power to feel the emotions of those around her. It’s a secret she can share only with her friends—all professors, all witches—when they gather for the Cambridge University Society of Literature and Witchcraft. Amandine treasures these meetings but lately senses the ties among her colleagues beginning to unravel. If only she had her student Noa’s power to hear the innermost thoughts of others, she might know how to patch things up. Unfortunately, Noa regards her gift as a curse. So when a seductive artist claims he can cure her, Noa jumps at the chance, no matter the cost. Noa’s not the only witch who’s in over her head. Mathematics professor Kat has a serious case of unrequited love but refuses to cast spells to win anyone’s heart. Kat’s sister, Cosima, is not above using magic to get what she wants, sprinkling pastries in her bakery with equal parts sugar and enchantment. But when Cosima sets her sights on Kat’s crush, she conjures up a dangerous love triangle. As romance and longing swirl through every picturesque side street, the witches of Cambridge find their lives unexpectedly upended and changed in ways sometimes extraordinary, sometimes heartbreaking, but always enchanting.
