Dusting Off Thunderbolts is not just another book about how to be a good leader. Having worked in 50 countries on a quest to find what he calls the heart of leadership, Sir John Jones shares wisdom gleaned from diverse cultures and continents. You will hear from giants of sport, literature, art, film and music, and be guided by poets, philosophers, war heroes and Nobel prize-winners. Sir John will introduce you to external forces that spark the inner spirit of leadership. The ancients called such forces "muses" and, like old friends, they have sustained Sir John through more than 40 years of leadership. Muses favour those courageous enough to work tirelessly at their craft and travel each day the tough road of hard practice, dedication and quiet heroism. Sadly, some leaders deny their existence, believing that they themselves are the sole source of their success. For these leaders, the gods will dust off their thunderbolts. Teeming with practical ideas, stories and suggestions, Dusting Off Thunderbolts will make you laugh, make you cry, make you think and help you grow. It is an affirmation of those who lead with deep humanity. It is a clarion call to those who see themselves as a constant work in progress. It champions those who take risks but give themselves permission to fail. It is a companion for those who have the courage to stand at the front while embracing their own vulnerability. It is a celebration of the leadership spirit within all of us. For all our failings, flaws and fears, neither the gods nor their muses can do their work without us.

If you’re a leader in America, you’ve got a big problem. More than half of all workers hate their jobs. In fact, job satisfaction and employee engagement have been declining for twenty-two straight years. One hundred years ago, a job and a paycheck kept workers satisfied. Now, pay barely makes the list. Employees’ needs have evolved dramatically. But our leadership practices have failed to keep up. In Lead From The Heart, Mark C. Crowley presents compelling new evidence that the solution leaders need lies in the last place traditional business would seek it: the human heart. Twenty-first-century employees need to feel… valued, respected, developed, and cared for. Their work has to matter. Recent scientific discoveries tell us that it’s the heart, and not the mind, that drives human performance and achievement. Drawing on decades of experience as a senior leader for regional and national financial institutions, Mark C. Crowley offers proof that leaders who intentionally engage the hearts of their employees will be rewarded with uncommon (and highly sustainable) performance and achievement. We’ve seen centuries of evidence of what the heart can do in sports, art, and music. Business is next. Lead From The Heart, and your employees will follow Available for download on Amazon's Kindle and Barnes and Noble's Nook

This book contains a vision for shaping the hearts and minds of developing spiritual leaders. It was written from my own experiences of observing a few men and women who were great leaders. Based on my experiences, I have concluded that great leadership really does exist and really can be developed with proper attention to a few essential principles. Sadly, I have also concluded that great leadership is very rare and fragile. Leaders, like all other human beings, suffer profoundly from severe deformities in their natures. These deformities often hijack the leaders' development from mediocre to good and from good to great. My hope with this book is to make a heartfelt appeal to you on the basis of my own experiences not to give up your hope and your quest for great leadership in the spiritual communities and challenges you encounter. The great leaders with whom I have interacted emerged in five significant phases in my life: my childhood family; my church community from the ages of 13 to 18 when I lived in England; my college community from the ages of 18 to 21 at Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, Georgia; my professional work community from the ages of 21 to 36 at Ernst & Young in Nashville, Tennessee; and my church communities in Nashville. Through stories and observations from my experiences, I hope to demonstrate to you the invaluable qualities which the great leaders in my life have exhibited, which I believe are universal characteristics of great leaders, in order to strengthen your hope and deepen your vision for Godly leadership.

In February 1999, only a few weeks before the U.S. Air Force spearheaded NATO's Allied Force air campaign against Serbia, Col. C.R. Anderegg, USAF (Ret.), visited the commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe. Colonel Anderegg had known Gen. John Jumper since they had served together as jet forward air controllers in Southeast Asia nearly thirty years earlier. From the vantage point of 1999, they looked back to the day in February 1970, when they first controlled a laser-guided bomb strike. In this book Anderegg takes us from "glimmers of hope" like that one through other major improvements in the Air Force that came between the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. Always central in Anderegg's account of those changes are the people who made them. This is a very personal book by an officer who participated in the transformation he describes so vividly. Much of his story revolves around the Fighter Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB), Nevada, where he served two tours as an instructor pilot specializing in guided munitions.
