In comparing the Book of Mormon with our day, there are many interesting parallels. The For Our Day documentary series explores these prophetic parallels referencing statements from latter-day Prophets of God and the Standard Works. For Our Day: Divinely Sanctioned Governments is the second DVD in this series, and compares the Nephite and Latter-day governments of liberty. Covering principles of liberty including: Unalienable Rights, Oath of Office, Federalism, the U.S. and Israel connection and the Laws of Mosiah—this DVD adds an understanding of governmental principles as they are taught in the “most correct book,” the Book of Mormon. Divided into two 45-minute parts for easy viewing, this DVD can be used for educational curricula, group discussions, family nights, religion or Constitution classes, and much more. Discover the origin and source of our Constitutional government, as witnessed by the Founders' words and actions, and revealed in the Constitution itself! Learn why Mormon deliberately placed in his abridgment details, too often considered insignificant, regarding the Nephite government, the Laws of Mosiah and the unique characteristics in the Nephite “Cause of Christians.” Be encouraged as you discover your own personal oath and covenant to protect and defend the Constitution during our modern age of Constitutional neglect, apathy and willful destruction—essentially the same oath and ordinance made by those in the Book of Mormon. Learn the historical context of the First Presidency's response to the Communist threat in America, and the implications of New Deal policies. Find clear scriptural definitions of Unalienable Rights, Federalism and Separation of Powers. See the purposeful design of our nation's Capital city and symbols of our government—constructed to acknowledge God. Finally, examine the stunning similarities in comparing the very words of Captain Moroni and George Washington as we explore the fact that the cause of freedom and liberty has been the Cause of Christians throughout time! Disc includes two parts: Part 1: Foundations (45 min) Laws of Mosiah, Unalienable Rights, Bible, Federalism, Christian Architecture, Israel, Title of Liberty, Checks & Balances, U.S. Seal, Historical Revisionism Part 2: Forsaking (45 min) New Deal, Socialism, Oath of Office, Washington's Oath, Divine Constitution, Nephite Judges, Broken Covenants

It is only in the last 250 years that ordinary people (in some parts of the world) have become citizens rather than subjects. This change happened in a very short period, between 1780 and 1820, a result of the foundations of democracy laid in the age of revolutions. A century later local governments embraced this shift due to rapid industrialization, urbanization, and population growth. During the twentieth century, all democratic governments began to perform a range of tasks, functions, and services that had no historical precedent. In the thirty years following the Second World War, Western democracies created welfare states that, for the first time in history, significantly reduced the gap between the wealthy and everyone else. Many of the reforms of that postwar period have been since rolled back because of the belief that government should be more like a business. Jos C.N. Raadschelders provides the information that all citizens should have about their connections to government, why there is a government, what it does, how it does it, and why we can no longer do without it. The Three Ages of Government rises above stereotypical thinking to show the centrality of government in human life.

Civil government is what we often call the state, which shares characteristics with other institutions. But unlike any other institution, the state can encourage or compel people to do certain things. It sometimes has the legitimate authority to deprive us of life, liberty, and property. The Bible tells us that it and our human governors are ordained by God. The key question this book asks is, “What has God taught us about the state?” The author also explores other questions, such as: Have we uncritically accepted ideas about civil government from our culture? Is our political identity adequately characterized as “conservative” or “progressive”—or should there be something more? What does the Old Testament teach us about civil government? What can we learn from Jesus’s relationship with the political powers of his day? This book also highlights the apostles’ interaction with local and Roman authorities and how the doctrinal statements of thoughtful Christians of the past should inform our views of civil government. Challenge political assumptions and ground your thinking in ways to honor God with the wisdom in Christians and Civil Government.

Though the Lord relentlessly proclaimed the law of God, He did not come as a political deliverer or social reformer. He did not issue a call for changes, even by peaceful means. Nor did Jesus rally supporters in a grandiose attempt to "capture the culture" for morality or greater political and religious freedoms. Rather, His divine calling was to rescue the lost souls of individual men and women from sin and hell. "A certain amount of healthy and balanced concern about current trends in government and the community is acceptable, as long as we realize that such interest is not vital to our spiritual lives, our righteous testimony or the advancement of the kingdom of Christ. Above all, the believer's political involvement should never displace the priority of preaching and teaching the gospel because the morality and righteousness that God seeks is the result of salvation and sanctification."-John MacArthur In Why Government Can't Save You (An Alternative to Political Activism), author John MacArthur illustrates through Scripture that, regardless of the numerous immoral, unjust, and ungodly failures of secular government, believers are to pray and seek to influence the world for Christ by godly, selfless, and peaceful living under that authority, not by protests against the government or by acts of civil disobedience. Dr. MacArthur will explore these areas: Christians' Responsibility to authority How and why to support our leaders How to live righteously in a pagan culture The principle of paying taxes Jesus' lessons on tax exemptions The biblical purpose of government The principle and reasons for civil obedience "To devote all, or even most, or our time, energy, money, and strategy to putting a facade of morality on the world or the appearance of 'rightness' over our governmental and political institutions is to badly misunderstand our roles as Christians in a spiritually lost world."-John MacArthur In this book find out your Christian responsibility to government and political causes.

The concentration of power in the caudillo (leader) is as much a formative element of Mexican culture and politics as the historical legacy of the Aztec emperors, Cortez, the Spanish Crown, the Mother Church and the mixing of the Spanish and Indian population into a mestizo culture. Krauze shows how history becomes biography during the century of caudillos from the insurgent priests in 1810 to Porfirio and the Revolution in 1910. The Revolutionary era, ending in 1940, was dominated by the lives of seven presidents -- Madero, Zapata, Villa, Carranza, Obregon, Calles and Cardenas. Since 1940, the dominant power of the presidency has continued through years of boom and bust and crisis. A major question for the modern state, with today's president Zedillo, is whether that power can be decentralized, to end the cycles of history as biographies of power.
