Face à la globalisation, les concepts de développement local et de gouvernance territoriale font désormais partie des paradigmes prioritaires du développement. Comment développer une relation de causalité positive entre une mondialisation qui suppose une gouvernance globale et un développement locale qui appelle une gouvernance territoriale ? Comment articuler l'approche de développement local conçue comme une démarche qui se veut collective et endogène, inclusive et participative, axée sur la construction d'un territoire restreint, avec la contribution de ce territoire au mouvement général du développement ? La vision du local peut-elle s'intégrer dans une perception du global sans compromettre la nécessaire dynamique qui doit réguler et rythmer les deux démarches appelées à être complémentaires, tant dans les stratégies que dans les agendas de réalisation? Présenté comme un modèle de développement alternatif, le développement local est devenu une référence et tend à s'imposer dans les discours de politique économique. Il place les acteurs au cœur de la gestion des territoires et nécessite la jonction avec de nouveaux espaces avec la mise en œuvre de nouveaux instruments de dialogue. C'est pour réfléchir et mettre en cohérence toutes les idées qui irriguent les discussions sur le développement local, la Gouvernance territoriale, la globalisation que le GERAD a réuni d'éminents experts dans les domaines du développement territorial, de l'aménagement, de la culture, pour jeter des regards croisés sur les enjeux et perspectives de ces problématiques. Le fruit de ces réflexions prospectives, dont l'essentiel est consigné dans ce livre, nous ouvre de nouvelles pistes et des perspectives qui préfigurent des projets de sociétés bâtis sur un ancrage entre le local et le global.

A partir d'espaces géographiques divers, les auteurs proposent des analyses sur les dynamiques spatiales, les comportements sociaux, les positionnements politiques, les stratégies des acteurs. Ils revisitent les concepts de gouvernance urbaine, de centralité, de ruralité et interrogent les modèles spatiaux, écologiques et politiques en cours dans le monde. Ainsi, ils montrent que partout, les relations entre espace rural et espace urbain se complexifient.

The European Journal of Tourism Research is an open access academic journal in the field of tourism, published by Varna University of Management, Bulgaria. Its aim is to provide a platform for discussion of theoretical and empirical problems in tourism. Publications from all fields, connected with tourism such as tourism management, tourism marketing, tourism sociology, psychology in tourism, tourism geography, political sciences in tourism, mathematics, tourism statistics, tourism anthropology, culture and tourism, heritage and tourism, national identity and tourism, information technologies in tourism and others are invited. The journal is open to all researchers. Young researchers and authors from Central and Eastern Europe are encouraged to submit their contributions. Regular Articles in the European Journal of Tourism Research should normally be between 4 000 and 20 000 words. Major research articles of between 10 000 and 20 000 are highly welcome. Longer or shorter papers will also be considered. The journal publishes also Research Notes of 1 500 – 2 000 words. Submitted papers must combine theoretical concepts with practical applications or empirical testing. The European Journal of Tourism Research includes also the following sections: Book Reviews, announcements for Conferences and Seminars, abstracts of successfully defended Doctoral Dissertations in Tourism, case studies of Tourism Best Practices. The European Journal of Tourism Research is published in three Volumes per year. There are no charges for publication. Social and cultural geography is practised by geographers from around the world. However, for various reasons including language and publishing traditions, knowledge of the research being undertaken can often remain confined to those working within those countries. This book draws together, for the first time into one volume, reports of social and cultural geography undertaken in several countries from around the world. It provides an important overview of geographic ideas and traditions, and the history of human geography more generally, allowing comparison between countries and details of key studies and references.
