This guide has been prepared to help employers, builders, workers, health/safety personnel, and others to meet the requirements of the Ontario designated substance regulation respecting asbestos on construction projects and in building and repair operations. The guide begins with a review of the hazards of asbestos, of the asbestos regulation and its application, and of the prohibitions and limitations on asbestos use. The guide also contains sections on the classification of workers exposed to asbestos, procedures for asbestos removal, inspection and notification requirements, the utilization and management of asbestos in buildings, the use of respirators, instruction and training requirements for workers exposed to asbestos, medical surveillance requirements, and the use of equivalent measures and procedures. The appendices include a glossary, checklists for asbestos work procedures and respirator inspection, and procedures for bulk sampling and for work with asbestos-containing friction materials.
